If Love was Enough

If love was enough,

I’d overlook your

unwavering putdowns of others

whose faces you smile into,

million small cuts,

relentless putdowns of me,

non-dissuadable gaslighting,

insistence for appeasement,

unsatiable abyss of need and want

for any and everything.

If love was enough,

I’d allow only your

smile,

laugh,

kindness to animals,

knowledge of nature,

gardening skills,

cooking abilities,

punctuated moments

when I believe you care.

If love was enough,

It would answer

Are you demon or dual personality?

Calculating or sick?

Sadistic or surviving?

Preying upon kindness or doing the best you can?

Broken or just made wrong?

Or manifesting what I need you to be

To appease and complement my own fatal flaws?

There are no magic 8-balls.
