Jake Bugg (born Jake Edwin Charles Kennedy; February 28, 1994) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. His self-titled debut album Jake Bugg, some of which was co-written with songwriter Iain Archer, was released in October 2012 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. His second album, Shangri La, was released in November 2013 and his third, largely self-produced album On My One, in June 2016. His fourth album Hearts That Strain, a largely acoustic effort, produced by Dan Auerbach (guitarist/vocalist for The Black Keys) was released in September 2017.

Bugg’s self-titled debut album was released on October 15, 2012. Talking about Bugg and his debut, Clash hailed the “precocious talent fusing retro folk with blistering contemporary rock riffs”. On October 21, 2012 the song “Two Fingers” charted at 28 in the UK while the album reached number one in the UK charts. The album has sold 604,100 copies in the United Kingdom and is the 57th best selling album of the 2010s decade. Bugg’s touring band drummer Jack Atherton and bassist Tom ‘Robbo’ Robertson performed on five songs on the album.

I think you’ll recognize who he sounds like right away.  This song is real life for so many.

Stuck in speed bump city
Where the only thing that’s pretty
Is the thought of getting out

There’s a tower block overhead
All you’ve got’s your benefits
And you’re barely scraping by

In this trouble town
Troubles are found
In this trouble town
Words do get ’round

Kick the bottom make troubles flee
Smoke until our eyes would bleed
Sparkle pop the seed

Hear the sirens down the street
The kids get light on their feet
Or they’ll be in the back seat

In this trouble town
Troubles are found

Sitting on the pavement
Boy you’ve missed your payment
And they’re gonna find you soon

If there’s a beating in the rain
If there’s a little bit of pain, man
You’re the one it happens to

If I talk of getting out
I only hear the laughter loud
It’s gotten ugly at home

Somewhere there’s a secret road
To take me far away I know
But til then I am hollow

In this trouble town
Troubles are found
In this trouble town
Fools are found

Sitting on the pavement
Boy you’ve missed your payment
And they’re gonna find you soon

If there’s a beating in the street
If there’s a feeling of defeat
You’re the one it happens to

Stuck in speed bump city
Where the only thing that’s pretty
Is the thought of getting out

Songwriters: Iain Denis Archer / Jake Kennedy (Bugg)
