Betty said to Wilma, “I think my milk is dried up, as Bam-Bam keeps crying.”
Wilma said, “Are you eating enough greens and drinking plenty of water?”
“What do you mean, Wilma? I eat yak meat three times a day. Isn’t that enough?” asked Betty.
“I can see you haven’t read Dr. Rock’s latest tablet, Nursing for the Stone Age, have you?”
“Um, not yet,” said Betty.
Wilma went to the kitchen and started banging around. Bam-Bam continued to cry. Five minutes later Wilma came back with a fenugreek and borage salad and some thistle and red raspberry iced tea.
“Here you go, Betty. Eat and drink this, then head over to the library to borrow Dr. Rock’s tablet. I’ll watch Bam-Bam for you when you go.”
Wilma took Bam-Bam from Betty. Wilma had also fashioned a woven wool teat soaked in honey and chamomile tea while she was in the kitchen. She rocked baby Bam-Bam and let him suck on the teat. He calmed down and was soon fast asleep.
Betty smiled at Wilma with gratitude. “What would I do without a best friend like you, Wilma?”
“Nothing to worry about, Betty. Friends for life.”
