Reena’s Exploration Challenge #108 — Gently they go, until ready again

Related image

Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
As eyes softly close, breath takes its last this life
Cushions hold their bags of bones and flesh
Lowered now, held close to Earth’s breast

Dreams will lift them, floating now with ease
To a place of rest where there’s a gentle peace
Connect with soul mates until in time return
Ready again to learn and love on grounded Earth

Reena is the host of Reena’s Exploration Challenge.  Reena says:
I’ve chosen two short pieces of iconic poetry, which are given below. However, your task is not necessarily to write a poem. You can choose any one line out of the seven given here, and use it as the first line for your piece.  You can choose to end the piece with another line, but it is not a compulsion.

“For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons;
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”
–from, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot
“Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.”
–from, “Dirge Without Music” by Edna St. Vincent Millay

    Interesting prompt idea. Your response works well, keeping the feeling but making it your own. (K)

    Beautiful! Incidentally, somebody told me yesterday that souls have a choice to nit come back. They can become spirit guides instead. I look forward to that ☺

      Really? Interesting concept. I wonder if they can change their minds later? I can see every evildoer on the planet deciding to become a spirit guide — for evil! Maybe that’s why we are in such dire straights….
