Jim Adams is the appreciative, holly jolly host of Song Lyric Sunday. Jim says:
I am sure that it will be easy to find a song for Christmas/Holiday/Snowman which is being used as this week’s prompt.
Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not. If it does not fit, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.
The Jethro Tull Christmas Album is the 21st studio album released by Jethro Tull, on September 30, 2003. As of 2019, it is the band’s most recently released studio album.
Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow is the song I chose from this album.
Through long December nights we talk in words of rain or snow
While you, through chattering teeth, reply and curse us as you go.
Why not spare a thought this day for those who have no flame
To warm their bones at Christmas time?
Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.
Now as the last broad oak leaf falls, we beg: consider this —
There’s some who have no coin to save for turkey, wine or gifts.
No children’s laughter round the fire, no family left to know.
So lend a warm and a helping hand —
Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.
As holly pricks and ivy clings,
Your fate is none too clear.
The Lord may find you wanting, let your good fortune disappear.
All homely comforts blown away and all that’s left to show
Is to share your joy at Christmas time
With Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.
Songwriters: Ian Anderson
It seems like a nice Christmas drinking song.

Thanks Jim. It’s sunny and the snow is all gone, so it may be a summery Christmas!

They are one of a kind… like Dave said the other day… who builds their band around a flute?
I’m surprised also… they have a big following.

I didn’t see Dave say that. Good point! Ian has great qi/chi.

It’s funny I have this kind-of preconception of Jethro Tull, who were before my time, but this was not at all it. Great choice.

Jethro Tull rocked my world back then. They didn’t get a huge amount of radio play except for their big hits, but I was given an 8-track of Aqualung (lol) and that was it for me. Glad you enjoyed the song. One of Jethro Tull’s hallmarks is social commentary.

Absolutely love Jethro Till and their old English mix on music, I live the Christmas songs as the probably were in their day pagan . Great choice. 💜 Happy Christmas 💜
