I tell you what I found interesting. A few months ago, I shared a YouTube of a British comedy from the 1960s. Set in wartime, it (of course) poked fun at the Germans.
A couple of readers on here expressed the view that they couldn’t watch it because of what the Germans did in the holocaust.
I mean, to each their own, but I found it a bit strange that people should be offended in 2020, where people in 1965 (much higher proportion would have had personal memories), this was not only made into a show but was a very successful one at that.

Each person’s feelings are their own. No use in trying to rationalize others’ feelings. True story: my uncle was a career military man, did multiple tours of VietNam, and eventually got stationed in Germany. He married a German woman and they had 2 kids. He would come back to the States on visits. At the time a TV comedy, Hogan’s Heroes, which is set in a German POW camp, was on the air. One of my cousins LOVED that show. The Germans were made to look like buffoons. To me this says that not all Germans were or are evil Nazis, and many were opposed to them. I would hate to be judged by what our current POtuS does. Again, it gets back to our feelings being our own. It’s one of the few things we can still call our own these days.

I can’t imagine what they went through…
I read Rod Serling’s daughter’s book about him. He was a great guy but when it came to Hogan’s Heroes he hated it. When I say hate I mean hate because of it making fun of that war. Personally I like the show but of course I don’t remember the war.

I can where some would object to Hogan’s Heroes who had lived through the war. My German aunt literally escaped from East Germany. JoJo Rabbit is a “funny” movie but not funny at all.

Yes to each his own…and I do get how it would get. To Serling’s credit he didn’t blame the actors or anyone with the show I don’t think.
