I’ve only done this one other time, which is offering a second choice for the prompt for Song Lyric Sunday. First I want to see if the pingback works. Second to thank Jim again for so graciously guest hosting SLS for Helen. Jim, you wrote an excellent blog post a day or so ago about one of my favorite singing duos, The Everly Brothers. Their song, Cathy’s Clown, fits perfectly with the prompt. Released in 1960 and written by the brothers, Don and Phil Everly. From their, “A Date with the Everly Brothers”, it was #1 in US Hot 100, US R&B, and UK, the lyrics, the arrangement, and of course their voices and harmonies, are exquisite.
Don’t want your kisses, that’s for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that’s Cathy’s clown
You know a man can’t crawl
When he knows you’re tellin’ lies and he hears ’em passing by
He’s not a man at all
Don’t want your kisses, that’s for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that’s Cathy’s clown
And you know that it’s sincere
Don’t you think it’s kinda sad that you’re treating me so bad
Or don’t you even care?
Don’t want your kisses, that’s for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that’s Cathy’s clown
That’s Cathy’s clown

I love it! Perfect for today’s theme..

Great song Li and that was an awesome video. The Everly Brothers sure did use a lot of grease in their hair, which was the style back then.

Thanks Jim. The guys used the grease and the women used the spray shellac. I’m sure there’s a metaphor in there somewhere…. Did the pingback work?

Love the Brothers. They had so big of an influence. Without them… The Hollies and Beatles would not have been the same.

They did set the stage for that kind of pop (?) music didn’t they.
