The CD I borrowed from the library is titled, “The Best of Kinks: 1964-1971”. I do not see this BMG release at wikipedia. It has a lot of good music. My selection today from it is “Days.” If anyone knows who Ray was singing about, I’d like to know who it is.
per wikipedia: “Days” is a song by the Kinks, written by lead singer Ray Davies, released as a single in 1968. It also appeared on an early version of the album The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society (released only in continental Europe and New Zealand). It now appears as a bonus track of the remastered CD. The song was an important single for Davies and the Kinks, coming in a year of declining commercial fortunes for the band. The song had been intended as an album track but after the relative failure of the previous single “Wonderboy” (which only reached No. 36 in the UK), “Days” was rushed out as a single with an old unreleased track “She’s Got Everything” (recorded in February 1966 in the same session as “Dedicated Follower of Fashion”) as the B-side
Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I’m thinking of the days
I won’t forget a single day, believe me
I bless the light
I bless the light that lights on you believe me
And though you’re gone
You’re with me every single day, believe me
Days I’ll remember all my life
Days when you can’t see wrong from right
You took my life
But then I knew that very soon you’d leave me
But it’s all right
Now I’m not frightened of this world, believe me
I wish today could be tomorrow
The night is dark
It just brings sorrow, let it wait
Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I’m thinking of the days
I won’t forget a single day, believe me
Days I’ll remember all my life
Days when you can’t see wrong from right
You took my life
But then I knew that very soon you’d leave me
But it’s all right
Now I’m not frightened of this world, believe me
Days
Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I’m thinking of the days
I won’t forget a single day, believe me
I bless the light
I bless the light that shines on you believe me
And though you’re gone
You’re with me every single day, believe me
Days

I’m beginning to see what you like in The Kinks. Their lyrics are so insightful.

Hans, why wouldn’t this CD show up in wikipedia? I thought maybe because it’s BMG which I think is a secondary market?

Wiki isn’t the best place to look if I’m honest (and I always am, believe me!). Look at Discogs. They list 231 Kinks compilations! Two are called the Ultimate Collection. The 2002 version is a double and seems to have the good stuff on. 67 for sale from £1.95 (thats about, er, $1.95 nowadays).
Of course my acid test is whether Lola has Coca or Cherry Cola.

Thank you for your suggestion. I need to break the wiki habit, at least for music. 231??? amazing.

Wow! Haven’t heard this one in years. Thanks for sharing it! :D I lived in Germany, 1965-69 and listened to British radio. The Kinks were a huge part of that.

You are very welcome. They are classic gold! I have some relatives who lived in Germany around that time also. My uncle was in the service and stationed there.
