I watched Talking Heads’ 2-hour concert, Stop Making Sense, video two nights ago and was stunned by how good it was. I will be writing about in the near future but no time tonight.
I listened to Steely Dan’s album, Everything Must Go while coloring last night. I had to look up who was singing on, “Slang of Ages” as the voice isn’t the usual voice I associate with Steely Dan and discovered it was Walter Becker singing. Nifty little tune with kick.
Everything Must Go is the ninth and final studio album by American rock group Steely Dan. It was released on June 10, 2003, by Reprise Records, and was the band’s second album following their 20-year studio hiatus spanning 1980 through 2000, when they released Two Against Nature. Everything Must Go is the last studio album with founding member Walter Becker before his death in 2017.
Let me put it this way doll
And I know it’s getting late
I can tell from the planes of your face
That you’re from out of state
But here in the Willows now here’s the deal
Tomorrow’s for squares — tonight’s for real
Drop me off in Groovetime
Do you hear the Slang of Ages
Show me how it’s done
Now did you say you were from the Netherlands
Or was that “Netherworld”?
If you grew up in Amsterdam
Then I’m the Duke of Earl
These tabs look iffy — you say they’re good
Let’s roll with the homeys — knock on wood
Drop me off in Groovetime
Soothe me with the Slang of Ages
Show me where I turn
Are you all part of the Dreaming
Or the end of my life so far?
Or something half way in between
You oughta know
Hey — where’d she go?
Damn — she skipped dimensions
Was it something that I said?
Or something I was thinking
When she opened up my head?
Let me make it right baby — never mind how
There’s a crazy little place I know called “Be There Now”
Drop me off in Groovetime
Do you hear the Slang of Ages
Show me how it’s done
Drop me off in Groovetime
Soothe me with the Slang of Ages
This is where I turn

Talking Heads I wish I had seen them in concert back in the day- I don’t recall them ever coming around these parts maybe I just missed them. Agree with you on Stop Making Sense- a great rock movie!

Did Becker not sing lead much? Seems like Fagan did most of the singing?

You are correct…Fagan did more of the singing and Becker backup.
I don’t know a lot about them but yes I’m 99 percent you are right
