Fandango’s FOWC is hurry, the Word of the Day Challenge is yearning, Paula’s 3 Things Challenge words are pizza, daisy, revolver , and Teresa’s Story Starter Challenge phrase is “Why does this taste like mint?”
It was a hot late summer afternoon, and I’d been sweltering all day. I got a strong yearning for pizza and liquid refreshment. I called up Sally and Sandy and asked them to go with me to the tavern for food, drinks, and live music. Sally and Sandy said they had a few errands to do and would meet me there in an hour.
I said, “OK, but hurry!”
I put on my Daisy Duke shorts, then wondered where I was going to pack my revolver, as the tavern we were going to was known to be dangerous – but the pizza was so good there!!! I decided to bring it but leave it in the car, under the seat. “*Looking better than a body has a right to,” I high-tailed it down to Moxie’s and ordered a Cosmopolitan martini. I decided to wait until the others got there to order pizza but snacked on popcorn in the meantime.
It was only 7pm but already the place was jumping. It was open mike until 10, then the band started playing. There was a trio with a lead, bass, and drummer singing original tunes and several people were up on the dance floor. It was going to be a good night.
The bartender, who looked like a cross between Jax Teller and Jon Snow, threw down the napkin and presented my martini. He was new here and still excited about mixing drinks, I could tell. He waited and watched as I tasted it.
“Well!? What do you think?!”
A confused look crossed my face and I asked, “Why does this taste like mint?”
Then he was the one with the confused look. “Jimmy Joe helped me mix it every step of the way. It should be perfect. It doesn’t taste right?”
I looked up and over to try to get a glimpse of Jimmy Joe. Not surprisingly, Jimmy Joe was leaning on the other end of the bar with a big grin on his face. Jimmy Joe had been sweet on me for a long time, but I saw how he treated his waitresses and I wanted no part of that. Jimmy Joe would also know how hot I would think his new bartender was and wanted to nip that in the bud.
I gave the new bartender my biggest, brightest smile and said, “Honey, this is just right.”
*In case you’re trying to remember which song that line is from, I found not one, but two songs with it in it!

I knew of the Dolly Parton one, but required reminding. I’d heard the Donnie Iris song before but didn’t remember (or notice before) it having that line. Thanks.

I love this, both songs (most people don’t remember “Ah Leah!”), the Jax/Jon mashup, and most of all… live food! 😂❤️⭐️

LMAO, thanks for seeing my typo. It’s been a long day of writing! And I never even noticed both their names start with J and only have 3 letters. So funny.

Thanks Hans. I put the line into google search and the youtubes of Donnie and Dolly popped up. I totally forgot the Donnie song until I saw it.
