The Letter C today is in honor of George Harrison’s album, Cloud Nine.

Cloud Nine is the 11th studio album by English musician George Harrison. The album was recorded and released in 1987 after Harrison had taken a five-year hiatus from his career as a solo artist. He asked former Electric Light Orchestra leader and fellow musician Jeff Lynne to co-produce a new album with him. Besides Harrison and Lynne, other artists involved in the sessions included Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr on drums, Eric Clapton on guitar and both Gary Wright and Elton John on piano. While the success of Cloud Nine was not enough to spur Harrison into a tour, it inspired him to continue making music. In the spring of 1988, along with Lynne, he would call up friends Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison and begin a project ultimately realised as the Traveling Wilburys.

The Beatles tribute song “When We Was Fab” was a successful single, reaching the top 25 in both the UK and US.

One! Two!
Back then long time ago when grass was green
Woke up in a daze
Arrived like strangers in the night
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot doo)
Long time ago when we was fab (Fab!)
Back when income tax was all we had
Caressers fleeced you in the morning light
Casualties at dawn
And we did it all
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot doo)
Long time ago when we was fab (Fab)
In my world you are my only love

And while you’re in this world
The fuzz gonna come and claim you
But you mo better wise
When the buzz gonna come and take you away
Take you away. Take you away

The microscopes that magnified the tears
Studied warts and all
Still the life flowed on and on
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot, Gear!)
Long time ago when we was fab (Fab)

But it’s all over now, baby blue
(Oo! doot, doot doot. Fab!)
Long time ago when we was fab
(Fab!) Like this pullover you sent to me
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot. Gear!)
And you really got a hold on me
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot, Gear!)

When everyone else was swooning over Paul and John, this grade-schooler had a crush on George. Always my favorite Beatle, for a lot of reasons. Gone way too soon.

As a kid I liked Paul, but somewhere along the way it changed to George. Yes he was headed to better things I think…

Good song and surprising because George didn’t look back much…not in public anyway.

You know I thought the same thing. Maybe there were things he hated but also things he missed…

Yes I think he missed the guys more than he led on to the public.
