The Giuseppe family had been in business for a long time. Traveling in their wagon, parking it on the outskirts of towns, as their ancestors had, they never saw a day when their services would not be in demand. You see, The Giuseppe family was in the business of capturing souls. When a person did much evil in their lives, they were at risk of being haunted later by the those who died, either directly or indirectly, by their evil actions. Things like their slum rental properties with faulty wiring that trapped a family of 6 in the resultant fire, or a political leader whose main use of power was excluding those seeking political asylum and throwing them into detention camps, where they were at the whim of malicious guards.
Part of the Giuseppes’ skill was being able to pick up “the call” of the person who needed them telepathically. No matter which continent, it wouldn’t be long before they arrived. The “customer” would be charged a very large sum of money – and a guarantee that once the customer passed on his soul belonged to them as well.
Depending on how many souls needed capture, The Giuseppes would spread out with their psychic nets and small jars. One by one the souls would be caught and jarred. Afterwards, the customer would be allowed to see the tortured souls in their jars. Then the wagon would roll away, out of town, shelves of jars, jiggling and clinking along the way.

I stole the idea of something from a person being trapped in a jar from Roald Dahl’s book, “The BFG” (big friendly giant), where he was the only good giant in a group of evil giants. He made it his life mission to visit children in the night who were having nightmares so he could trap their nightmares in jars so they wouldn’t bother the children anymore. Roald Dahl is one of the greatest children’s authors that writes books that also entertain adults. I read his books to my kids when they were little.

haha! Ghost sure does need some more of the holy water! Maybe these people in your story are some long forgotten relatives of his, since they can read minds and want to rid the world of evil! :)
