Another oldie from Marty Robbins, this time off of his All-Time Greatest Hits. One thing I forgot aobut Marty is that he was also involved in race car driving.
Marty Robbins All-Time Greatest Hits, release date 1972, peaked at 25 in the US and made gold status. “(The Girl With) Gardenias in Her Hair” (1967) was originally on, “Tonight Carmen”. “(The Girl with) Gardenias in her Hair’s” peak position in the US was 9 and 1 in Canada.
One starry night in a little town in old Mexico
I found my love down by the sea where soft trade winds blow
She came in the night with perfume that sweetened the air
And I lost my heart to the girl with gardenias in her hair
I glanced her way she smiled and my heart started to sing
She came into my arms and the night became a sweet magic thing
When I held her close I knew I’d follow her anywhere
And I lost my heart to the girl with gardenias in her hair
We shared through the night our love until the first light of dawn
Then one last kiss and like a whisper on the wind she was gone
I go each night to the places where she once spoke my name
Some call me fool they say I’m chasing only a dream
But I know one day I’ll turn and suddenly she’ll be there
And I’ll spend my life with the girl with gardenias in her hair
Songwriters: Joy Byers / Robert F. Tubert

My father had Robbin’s greatest hits on 8-track. His songs take me back…thanks for sharing.

He had a boatload of hits, and the backup band on this song and others on the disc are excellent. Couldn’t find much info.

On some things you can’t find much for some reason. Yes he had great musicans backing him up…with that voice he didn’t need much but that just made it better.

Thanks Jim. There were 20 good songs to choose from on that CD and this one was my choice.

As a kid I thought it was wild- that Marty was a country singer and a NASCAR driver.. died way too young.. Now you have inspired me to listen to some Marty–
