“Sun, Sand, & Sea”by Terri Webster Schrandt
Sol white-out blinds,
penetrates with rays
of life and death.
Sand bathes, swims,
and flops out to air dry;
then turns to scour skin.
Lake, vast watering dish
dragonfly dart from spray
deer swim to drown ticks.

🖋️ Your poetry writing inspiration for this week is to use the photo as your inspiration, but I want you to concentrate on imagery. Extra points if you can work this phrase into your poem: “Sun, Sand, & Sea.”

Are those waves I am seeing? Surfs Up? I may be heading to MI with my board.

Not my pic and I don’t think it was taken in MI. That said, I’m sure the surf’s up out at Lake MI. I’m sure a jump in the lake would cool you right down from the weather TX has been having.

There’s such great imagery in this poem, Lisa. I like how you used a phrase for each word to describe sand, sun, and sea. That’s such a great effect. I forgot about the deer looking for a place to cool off. I bet the bugs are bad in the woods this year.

Colleen, thanks so much. There are a lot of bugs for sure. The mosquitos are not plentiful but the ones around are ravenous!

Thanks, Luanne, and yes on the image. Reminds me of Silver Lake Dunes a little north of here, up by Shelby.

I never thought about swimming with dead deer ticks, but I love Lake Michigan anyway. :)

If the worst you swim with in Lake MI is dead deer ticks, consider yourself blessed ;)

LOL I haven’t done any swimming there since I was 9 or 10.

That’s a great poem, Lisa! I learned that lakes can create waves from my trip to Michigan.

I have no idea either, but it sounds good and may even be true. How long can a tick hold its breath anyway ;)

Smart deer…
I’ve learned not to be scoured by the sun.
But I still enjoy ‘the waves’.
