Tanka Tuesday 336 — annual harvest

We
gather,
families.
Planting’s start ends
in fields’ sweet plenty,
each seed’s wrung miracle
made manifest. We, shirts wet,
sour sweat under dusk lemon skies
raise glad, tearful eyes, whisper thanks to
Mother’s graced, successful harvest season.

Harvest complete, barns filled, and canning done;
midnight bonfires, warm bellies, blue moon.
Cool dawn’s wake, in community;
shared purpose, to carry on.
In after breakfast hums
we load the wagons,
say our goodbyes;
families
aim for
home.

For quiet and seek, I used synonyms whisper and aim (for).

      I would love to live in a community just like that. When harvest comes everyone gathers and helps out and then heads back home.

      1. It’s gorgeous. You did a great job! The one form no one in the challenge has written is the Stacked/Double Inverted Etheree. This form has twenty lines with a syllable count per line of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 syllables per line which looks like an hourglass when centered on the page.

    I recently finished An Amish mystery… well the one charactor is friends with the Amish. An ‘Ah, that’s plenty good’ – or something like that came up quite often.

    Elizabeth Ludwig has written quite a few ‘Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries’. I know I’ve read at least one other by her. And what you write is what the Amish do – they are a community that helps each other :D

      Jules, there is an Amish community just north of here, in Fremont. I go up there to their bulk goods store a few times a year and the store is definitely a community activity.
