What’s Going on? — Weather Spirit’s Vessel

resized garden sage in planter 0922 (2)

Vacation weather fades
Encroaching tourists gone
Sun shines in weaker splays
Showers sweeten apples
Everything much regreened
Like second spring has sprung

October ‘round corner
Fresh paint on undergrowth
Yes! scorch memories fade
Overcoats are pulled out
Unruly goldenrod
Rules fence lines; honeybees

We’ve survived heat records,
Eating fires, killing drought
Affection for coolness
Takes over Michigan
Hear rain drops from roof edge
Each living thing gives thanks
Revel in nature’s grace

Spirit’s Vessel form (modified with 7 letters/lines in last stanza)

We suffered all summer and feel now is a loving respite from nature. I pray we have a real winter with real snow and lots of it.

I hope you get the winter you want. I’m not a fan of snow as I rarely see it but I understand that it’s important in your part of the world.

Thank you. I never prayed for snow before, but these last couple of winters we didn’t get much, and yes it is very important to this part of the world.

How strange the weather must be when you can’t rely on the seasonal changes you are used too. I hope your snow prayers are answered.

Sigh. Lost my first very long comment due to some strange pop-ups that are plaguing me today. First, I love your title. I feel weather is Mother Earth’s voice and she is sounding ever more desperate though not many hear her cries. I love that your weather is changing from heat to more livable temperatures and am so glad you mentioned Michigan, so we know where you are. So welcome the sound of raindrops falling from the roof edge. I’m so glad you came by What’s Going On?, Lisa, and do hope you will come again. Mary has a great prompt for us next week.

There is something very peaceful about the time when tourists have left, the sun still shines, and apples are ready to pick. It is good to have survived the heat, and looking forward to cooler October IS bliss. Ah, I spent some time in Upper Michigan in August…beautiful scenery, waterfalls, and interesting history there! Nice to meet you, and hope to see you again!

Mary I’m glad you’ve experienced Upper Michigan in August. I live farther down state, south of Ludington and north of Grand Haven. My son used to go to school up there so I’ve seen its beauty. Thank you for the warm welcome :)

It finally stopped raining and it’s cooled down. The air is bad though. It takes autumn a while to arrive here most years.

It’s not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago, but it’s so humid. Walking outside means that one is drenched in sweat even what a pleasant breeze is blowing. I’m hoping October will be better, though our summer does drag into mid November usually.

Glad it is getting cooler. You need to carry around a squeegee to keep the humidity off :)

Thank you and happy you like it, Max. Never smelled tobacco barns smoking, but I smoked for 18 years (ages 17-35) and would probably run right into one if I smelled that.

Oh it doesn’t smell like that at all…it has a nice nice smell. Funny thing…Jennifer is from West Virginia and they didn’t have those there either… and when I first met her….she saw a barn smoking and was going to call the fire department…I told her no….lol that is normal. I had to convince her it was normal.

Those Goldenrods are causing havoc with my allergies. Its cooler here today and the heavens have decided not to cry for the day. All this rain makes me moody. I heard on the news our local apple crops won’t be as plentiful due to bad weather back in May. It’s all connected in the cycle with many not making the connection between weather and our food supply. Lovely poetry….

Thank you, Someone. I know Goldenrod can be a bear for allergies. I recently learned that they can fatten the honeybees up before freezing temps begin. It’s always a little of this and a little of that isn’t it. So sorry to hear about May’s weather affecting the apple crops :(
