#FF — Baby Blue

Her favorite color is blue. She wonders why it is so. Had she been an otter in another incarnation? Perhaps an eagle, gliding mountain updrafts? Maybe a butterfly that loved the nectar of delphinium blossoms best?

Or maybe it is because she wears it like seal skin, suffocating her, squeezing the life out of her?

She climbs a steep path; stands on the precipice, between churning aquamarine sea below and cerulean sky’s silent witnessing above. She feels left with no other choice.

A ringtone she hasn’t heard in years shatters the moment.

She answers.

Baby, it’s me. Where are you?

An interesting stream of musing and soooo glad she got that phone call. Someone needed to bring her back from that blue edge.

I think it was divine intervention. Makes me wonder if hooking back up with this person is a good idea even though they appear to have saved her life. Perhaps she’ll come to the realization she doesn’t need them after all… Thanks for reading and commenting, “Someone.”

I heard a mother in the phone voice, but I realise it could be a paramour too. Either way, I hope they pull her back from the brink but then she learns to see the beauty without them.

I don’t know–something about the tone of that call bothers me–is she ALWAYS answerable for her whereabouts, her thoughts, her desires? Made me uncomfortable.

I like the images of blueness in your story. Some peaceful and lovely, some darker. I particularly like the ‘sealskin’ idea. – the notion of suffocation leads into the next paragraph, where she’s on a ‘precipice’. Very tense, and then she’s saved. Phew. Great pace and feeling.
