I randomly happened across mention of, “The Church of Tarantino” podcast on facebook and immediately went to Spotify to find it. Have only listened to the prologue so far, which I will include at the bottom of this post. Very much looking forward to listening to others who love Tarantino go through his movies in chronological order. I did look at some of the podcast titles and see some amount of attention will be on the soundtracks of the films.
A blogger (sorry, I forgot who, but if it was you, let me know and I will edit this post) mentioned how perfect the soundtracks for Tarantino movies are. I remembered reading an article about the person behind those soundtracks awhile back and went searching for the article. I *think* I found it.
Mary Ramos, Quentin Tarantino’s Music Supervisor, on 9 Memorable Song Selections in Their Films
by Dan Hyman, originally ran on Vulture in December, 2015, but they republished it on July 25, 2019 after Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood. Read more about Mary Ramos and her integral role in choosing soundtrack songs for the maestro HERE.

From Mary’s website:
Award Winning Music Supervisor, Mary Ramos, has helped create the musical identity for over 100 films for the past 25 years.

I’ve always thought that was an interesting job. We give credit to composers for film and know them by name, but what about those who find just the right piece of music already out there to fit a particular scene?

I agree, Steve. It’s a job I would be very good at.

That article was great…the only director that is as good with music is Martin Scorsese…those two are the best.
I know her job must get frustrating going through band arguments and red tape.

In another life this will be my job. I’ll have to take a look at Scorcese movies in light of the soundtracks. Never noticed before, thanks for the heads-up.

Train me please lol. Goodfellas has some great scenes set against music.

I was just reading about Mary Ramos somewhere…it’s an important job. (K)

She needs to more than a one-liner in the credits. It belies her importance.

This is fascinating, Lisa. I don’t really listen to podcasts but I just might have to try this one out…

I don’t listen to them either, usually (no time) but this one, yes, might be worth a listen. Have you seen “Only Murders in the Building” on HULU? It’s about a trio that does podcasting. It’s an excellent show and so funny and sharp.

I shared with Marc and he asked me if I knew how long the episodes were…. they are from 1 to 2.5 hours long!
I have it on Disney+ and was going to watch it. Was hoping Marc had access to it so we could watch together but nope…I’ll have to go it alone 😉

The episodes I watch on HULU are not that long, maybe a half hour? They might condense them into blocks?

No, I was talking about the podcast!

Oh, ok! Can you listen to them while you’re walking/running?

I listen to nothing when I run. I suppose I could try when I walk ;-)

The Video Archives Podcast is incredibly informative and funny. Roger and Quentin know their shit. Of course they would! Hahaha. It is rich with details and history and the films they talk about are often rare gems worthy of a look. Of course there are duds too.

ha ha! I just went to spotify and listened to the trailer/premise. Sounds fun, kind of like Mystery Science Theater. And Quentin himself is one of the hosts!? How cool is that. Thanks for the heads-up, Robert!
