Granddaughter’s ringlets
honeyed pool gleams on the floor —
just before winter?
Fall Witch understands
toddler’s strength is in her hair —
and in gramma’s care.
She, oblivious, runs
safe in autumn’s golden sun’s
untouchable grace.

kigo = fall witch
Colleen Chesebro is the host of Tanka Tuesday. Colleen says:
This is the second week of the autumn equinox (or spring equinox in the southern hemisphere). Your syllabic poetry writing invitation is to choose a kigo word or phrase from the seasonal kigo…

In the care, especially. (K)

Good one Lisa…they always remind me of Mary Pickford…that is how warped my mind is lol.

Hey Max that is an unexpected tangent! Did you know “America’s Sweetheart” was actually Canadian?

Yea i do that lol. Yes I did… I’ve read quite a bit on her plus about her relationship with Fairbanks. She was always proud about being a Canadian.
She was fierce and a hell out of an actress and buisness woman. Hey…she was one of the founding members of United Artists…which is really cool.
I love that era Randy…Clara Bow would be my favorite actress…ever.

A true Renaissance man! Very cool you know so much about her story, quite remarkable.

No…I love the teens and twenties…but when it comes to the 30s and 40s…I’m weak…except Marx Brothers movies…I love those.
I am a big lover of silent movies.

I’m more with what followed, I love Jean Arthur and Capra films!! Edith Shearer is another Canadian with a story.

Someone who knows Jean Arthur! I fell in love with her in “You Can’t Take It With You” ….her and Jimmy Stewart were great. That is high on my movie list…and of course Mr Smith Goes to Washington…
I love Capra’s Lost Horizon also.

Her and Jimmy were special, I’ve watched Mr Smith I don’t know how many times, and of course A Wonderful Life is a must every Christmas,

Oh yes It’s A Wonderful Life…I never miss it. I just saw Lost Horizon a few years ago…and I fell for that one.
I think Capra wanted Arthur for It’s A Wonderful Life…but she was busy. I loved the way she talked.

She would have worked great but Donna Reed was spectacular.

Fall witch is a brilliant kigo! I wish I had your grandbaby’s hair! How gorgeous are those curls? I liked how to tied in her strength to her hair. Great mythological reference!

Colleen, happy you liked those aspects of it. I don’t write many senryu and wondered if things would work in it.

Senryu are humorous or snarky, and all about the tone. Here’s the best advice I found on senryū: “Haiku wants to create a feeling, while senryu wants to make a point.”

You’re so right, Jules. My younger (and only) sister had golden ringlets like that and once she got her hair cropped they never did. :::fingers crossed::: for the grandbaby! Did your seeds arrive yet??

I did mean to tell you that yes they arrived. I don’t get to my box everyday. ~Thank you!!
I’ve been looking into watering my plantsfrom the bottom and or using the porous tips that you can put on different bottles to water my plants. I also saw something about Olla bowls (not what you eat) – but putting a plug in a terricotta pot putting that in the soil and covering it with the saucer. You put water in the pot and it seeps into the garden. If you put the saucer right side up you can also create a little watering hole for polinators. I’m going to try that next year with my raised gardens outside.

Cool and glad they made it, you are welcome. Interesting watering ideas to save water when watering. I use 33 oz empty dishwashing liquid bottles upside down in my houseplants for the bigger ones. It seems to work well.

I tried those glass blub things… they didn’t work well. I have some juice bottles and water bottles. At the bank they have the mini water bottles. And I’ve saved them for smaller pots. :)
