24 SSPC 7 (1st wk) — The Beginning of Winter (Ritto) (Nov 7-21) — Autumn Storm

dusk

As November’s globe ticks its way to other orientations, long nights imbalance with ever-shortening light. Today, rain is forecast. Noon’s pregnant clouds occlude what scant light there is; and by five o’clock landscape is but blurry shadow as the temperature drops.

Dusk, a dingy blank
upon which nothing is writ
even crows silent
moon feels million miles away
wet kindling smoke curls

Tanka Prose form

kigo words:  autumn storm, long nights

Colleen Chesebro is the the host of Tanka Tuesday.  Colleen says:
Your syllabic poetry writing invitation is to choose a form from the 24 Forms. Then, choose a kigo word or phrase from the seasonal kigo list [found here and there or think of your own special kigo based upon what is happening in your location that fits the definition of kigo.]

“moon feels million miles away”–what a perfect evocation of the feeling in the atmosphere right now. I hope it returns soon. (K)

Me too! There have been such radical changes in the season. Remember when it was a drought and scorching hot? Seems like so long ago.

I’m a nature lover but there’s not a lot to like about a cold rain. Except maybe that it inspires good poetry :)

I love your vivid descriptions. These lines are particularly majestic:
    “Dusk, a dingy blank
    upon which nothing is writ”

    Well writ!
