Because so many readers had questions about what was going on and what would happen next, I decided to write a Part 2 to last week’s story.
His eyes widen, then resume their suspicious stare.
He takes the ratty-edged photo from me and studies it under the porch light’s glare.
His eyes are softer now when he looks up at me.
“Who are you?,” he says.
“I’m Helen, the boy’s grandmother. His mother passed and I found her journal. In it, she writes about the summer she spent here and the eccentric bird scientist who lived at the edge of Reeds Lake. It didn’t take much asking at the tavern to find you.”
His voice breaks as he asks, “Where is my son?”
“In Zurich, at school.”

Yes, especially since the poor guy has never known his son. I wonder if he even knew he had a son?

A good question.

Great job, Lisa. I went back and read the one from last week as well to match them together. Yes, this helps to shed a bit more light on it.

And I expected a show down. Makes me wonder “why now”. Does the son know or care? Loving the drama.

Thank you for doing as we asked, that’s an intriguing addition! Will it continue or won’t it?

Thanks much, Keith. Whether or not it will will depend on next week’s image — and The Muse.

This is what we call a satisfactory ending – and unexpectedly a welcomed shift.

Ooo. So Helen wasn’t aware of who her grandson’s father was until she found the journal, and now, yes, many more questions. I like how you built this – his ‘suspicious stare’ transformed to a loving and emotional desire to know his son.

Aha. Interesting. It’s a lovely word. You can really roll it around in your mouth. 😊 I bet it sounds terrific with an American accent.

Thanks for continuing the story, Lisa. I’m happy she found her grandson’s father. I’m sure that the boy is going to be happy to meet his father. It probably is what his mother would have wanted.

Adele, I think you’re right about mother wanting father to be there now as she cannot <3

How serendipitous that Rochelle chose a similar photo to last week so you could continue the story and not leave us hanging! Nicely done.

Dale, you know I was wondering whether it was serendipity or Rochelle who decided to make it easy for me? Maybe she will tell us at some point this week?

I told her it was weird of her to choose two similar photos two weeks in a row…
To which she replied, it suited her story and she’s the Queen!

We shall see if the story continues. It’s all up to The Muse. Some mysteries may have to remain :)

Dear Lisa,
I don’t usually appreciate a series in FF, but I’m making an exception here. This is begging for Part 3. Well done.

Perhaps not such a deadbeat dad after all. I like the ambiguity of the original ending, but you’ve granted the stooped old man some redemption in the sequel.
