Here are the 4 new albums (CDs) I bought. 3 of them were used through discogs but the Idles one is new.
It started with the HBO series, Treme, Season 1. For anyone who hasn’t seen the show, set in New Orleans, not long after Hurricane Katrina, it’s all about the music. And of course the devastation of the hurricane and people trying to put their lives back together after it. There are 19 songs on it, which I must have heard in the show but haven’t had a chance to play the CD yet. I hope to get to know more about NOLA music through this and use it as a jumping off point.
When I bought the Treme on discogs I was forced to buy 2 more at very low prices before the seller would ship. Browsing for awhile, I found John Hiatt’s, “Perfectly Good Guitar.” As I had just seen John on an episode of “Treme” Season 2, I thought why not. Here’s another one I haven’t had a chance to listen to. Wiki says it’s his 11th album, released in 1993.
I also chose Dave Matthews Band’s, “Crash,” DMB’s 2nd studio album, released in 1996. Again, no time yet to listen to it.
The last and 4th album, “Joy,” by Idles, released in 2018, *is* one I’ve been listening to tracks of on Spotify ever since Steve for the Deaf called attention to them. The linked post isn’t the one that got me listening, but it refers to this album. I also pre-ordered their new album, which should be getting here in a couple of weeks. Now that I’ve had a chance to listen the whole album, I’m even more convinced at how effin good this band is. The lyrics are brilliant, the sound hard-edged, the wailing drums, and the bass and lead guitars up against that voice, wow.

Wow, that voice, those lyrics, epic!

I miss the days when there was a local shop dedicated to exchange of CDs, tapes and vinyl, it was a treat to browse.

For sure, Paul. And the shop owner was an expert on music.

I’ve read some good reviews on the Idles new one. My latest new album I’ve bought is Future Islands’ “People Who Aren’t There Anymore”.

Glyn, will you be doing a review on it?

I honestly would if I had more time Lisa. I’ve still not posted anything about the Eden Project yet!

Hadn’t heard of Idles before. Nice tune here. Who’s the little green birdie showcasing the albums? Looks like a good pal to listen along with!

You must be one of the last people I know who still buys CDs!! Good on you.
I couldn’t hear his voice through the guitar, to be honest. I’ll try when I get home and the acoustics are better ;-)

That’s what my kids think too. I like hard copies and full albums. Same with books. A real dinosaur. I hope you give it a couple listens and hope you can hear him better.

I have three boxes of them. Am actually considering putting them in their racks and listening to them again. I really enjoyed having them on my last road trip. I forgot to when I got home but I’ll try again.

I love John Hiatt’s song “Perfectly Good Guitar”! I know I previously also sampled some other tracks from that album. I’ve grown pretty found of Hiatt over the past few years.
I don’t know any of the other albums you got. That Idles clip sounds pretty raw!

Great on the Hiatt. Now if I can just find the time to listen to it. Some of the other tracks aren’t quite as “intense.” There’s a funny animated YT out there for the song but I passed on using it.

I know, Lisa, time or lack thereof oftentimes feels like my story when it comes to music blogging! :-)

I like the drums, particularly.
Discogs is great. Not that I need any more cds. I prefer them to digital as well. (K)
