Night Light

Earlier last week, after seeing the moon peeking in through the blinds in my bedroom, I wrote a poem about it to Bjorn’s prompt. Later last week, dusk was falling as I returned home from running errands. I saw her there, rising through trees across the street.

captive, we point
at her still beauty, found
luminous church

Here’s a second one, speaking to Peggy Bilbro’s “Full Moon” poem that Frank included in the prompt:

On the Tray

Michel Houellebecq’s Atomized holds a passage where he describes his disappointment when he notices women’s labial lips begin to lengthen with age. Read twenty-five years ago, his barb is still hooked in my psyche.

when disassembled
for creative appetites
we become objects

Frank is today’s host for dVerse’ Haibun Monday. Frank says:
Whether micro or super, a full moon is a nocturnal delight. Today, let’s do some winter moon gazing of our own! Write your haibun alluding to the Snow Moon, any way you like.

I like your approach to this prompt, Lisa, with more than double haiku. I especially love the luminous church.

  3. Houellebecq should take a look in the mirror sometime. He’s a loathesome individual.

I’ve read 2 of his books, Atomized and Platform, but what I’ve included here about is about all I remember about his work. I’ll take your word for it, Jane.

      1. He’s a very controversial figure here. Not well-liked. Tends to pretty right-wing, intolerant misogynist views.

After your first comment I went to wiki to learn more. I see how his horrific childhood twisted him, but sadly he decided to stay twisted :( His 3rd, current wife is 35 years his junior…

          1. He agreed to play in a porn film (to show how versatile he is, I suppose) and then tried to prevent it being shown because it caused such hilarity :)

Beautiful Haibun. Your haiku of the moon’s silent beauty lead me to think… We don’t have to be noisy or dancing around to be beautiful and draw attention. We just have to be who we are…

Is that your photo? It’s wonderful, and your haibun captures its spirit.

As to being objectified…it seems to be worse than ever. (K)

  9. “Night Light” totally nails that magical feeling you get when you’re captivated by the moon’s glow. The writing paints such a vivid picture, you can almost feel yourself gazing up at the sky. And that haiku? It adds an extra layer of depth and making you stop to ponder the mysteries of the universe.
