Remember those adorable dawn redwood from last year? At the end of last summer, when it was so scorching out, their leaves turned brown and I thought they were dead. It was heart-rending to see, and the guilt! If only I’d taken better care of them!
Last week, Cari Draft, my fitness guru, messaged me with a pic of the jade plant I’d given her to show me how it was thriving. It led to me going out into the mini greenhouse and taking a look at the stuff that wintered over in there. Upon closer examination of the “dead” dawn redwood, I noticed that each of the 4 remaining ones has new growth on it!!!!! I think this type of tree must be like that larch tree, where the leaves look like evergreen needles but is actually deciduous.
They are still tiny, between 2-4″ tall — BUT THEY ARE ALIVE!

Awesome! I was thinking to them the other day and how they are doing. I’m glad that they are still alive

btw, you may not have noticed but I have just borrowed a notion from you – the fitness guru. Helped me to write something out I still need to explore further. Thanks. And thanks for writing,

I’m a bit late to the party on their history, but that new growth on them has got to be a great feeling, Lisa. Good news and a good tune both!

A friend of mine gave me some seeds 2 years ago and I managed to get several to sprout. Now 4 are left and are happy the sun is shining :) Thanks, Bruce.
