Exploiting yourself sexually is not a good look. I don’t find it encouraging…I just stand there and sing. I’m not worried that I’m a ‘plus size’ and so much bigger than other artists. No matter what you look like the key is to be happy with yourself. —AZquotes
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (b.5/5/88), stage name Adele, is an English singer-songwriter known for her mezzo-soprano vocals and sentimental songwriting. Adele has received numerous accolades including 16 Grammy Awards, 12 Brit Awards (including three for British Album of the Year), an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. She is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with sales of over 120 million records worldwide. The best-selling female artist of the 21st century in the UK, she was named the best-selling artist of the 2010s decade in the US and worldwide. Her studio albums 21 and 25 were the top two best-selling albums of the 2010s in the UK and both are listed among the best-selling albums in UK chart history, while in the US both are certified Diamond, the most of any artist who debuted in the 21st century.
Early Life:
Adele was born in the Tottenham district of London. Her English mother is Penny Adkins, and her Welsh father is Marc Evans. Her father left when Adele was 2 years old. In 1997, when Adele was 9 years old, she and her mother relocated to Brighton on the south coast of England, but returned to London 2 years later.
Musical Beginnings:
Adele began singing at age 4 and asserts that she became obsessed with voices. She spent much of her youth in Brockwell Park where she would play the guitar and sing to friends. She stated, “It has quite monumental moments of my life that I’ve spent there, and I drove past it [in 2015] and I just literally burst into tears. I really missed it.” She graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon in May 2006. Adele credits the school with nurturing her talent. Four months after graduation, she published two songs on the online arts publication, PlatformsMagazine.com. She recorded a three-song demo for a class project and gave it to a friend who posted the demo on Myspace. It became very successful and led to a phone call from Richard Russell, director of the music label XL Recordings.

I remember first hearing her on UK television and thinking she’ll go far.

Glyn I only knew her by name but listening to her in these videos, I can see why you’d think that.
FYI, I’m skipping most prompts for the month of March, so please pardon my absence at MMB.

Thats what I like the most. I love the history of anyone…even if I’m not a fan. You know I’m not a fan of Madonna but I’ve watched bios of her…don’t know why but I’m always interested in that.

Max, like me, I think you enjoy learning about the threads that hold the music where it is. There long filaments to modern music if you care to see them. It’s why I enjoy reading your blog so much.

Yes I agree….I see every artist as important no matter if I’m a fan. There are building blocks throughout.
Thanks Lisa! Oh I’ve got my contribution around 3/4 done…for the 15th I believe.

I do like some of her music and I remember being blown away the first time I heard her sing. Interesting to learn a bit about her, she’s a talented person and she goes about things in her own way, gotta respect that.

Randy good way of putting it. I’m guessing there comes a time in every super successful artist when they have that freedom. I see her in that category.

It’s hard for me to believe she’s only got four albums–it seems like her music has been around forever. I didn’t like the last album so much. But most musicians have ups and downs. The first two, in particular, are full of good songs. (K)

Yes, for as big of a star as she is, 4 seems too few. Will remember about the first 2 being the best.

Another great pick! While Adele’s music generally isn’t so much my cup of tea, she’s an incredible vocalist. I like “Skyfall”, the theme song from the 2012 Bond picture.
After Adele lost weight she was criticized by some for changing her physical appearance. I just find this nuts since it has nothing to do with her artistry. I guess when you’re famous, some people think they own you!

Christian, I wondered also about much different she looks now from what she looked like in the first video and in pics I scrolled through, particularly when she was so emphatic that her size didn’t matter. Maybe she started having health issues and the doc said lose it? I love her voice, there is power in it.

It seems like Adele lost weight due to an intense exercise regimen, which she started to improve her mental health. Whatever her motivation was, I just find it incredible how people have called her out over it. And, yes, I definitely agree her voice is very powerful.

What’s that old saying, you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time…

Gorgeous songs and unique modern voice, and interesting post. Voices change in what is popular over the years, making old songs new again. I enjoyed this post a lot! :)

I certainly played a lot of her when she first hit the scene. She really has a neat voice. She sings with warmth, power, and emotion. She’s one of the few modern singers I can listen to

I didn’t know her before doing this write-up and I also like what I’m hearing. I’ve got a few more modern singers coming up this March that I think you might enjoy…
