Beyoncé – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – 1st June 2023
It is so liberating to really know what I want, what truly makes me happy, what I will not tolerate. I have learned that it is no one else’s job to take care of me but me.
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (b. 9/4/81) is an American singer, songwriter and businesswoman. Dubbed as “Queen Bey” and a prominent cultural figure of the 21st century, she has been recognized for her artistry and performances, with Rolling Stone naming her one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Early Life:
Beyonce was born in Houston, Texas, to Celestine “Tina” Knowles, a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager. Tina is Louisiana Creole, and Mathew is African American. Beyoncé’s maternal grandparents were French-speaking Louisiana Creoles, with roots in New Iberia. Beyoncé is considered a Creole, passed on to her by her grandparents.
Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange, is also a singer and a former backup dancer for Destiny’s Child. Solange and Beyoncé are the first sisters to have both had number one solo albums.
Musical Beginnings:
As a child, Beyoncé started performing in various singing and dancing competitions. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time.

Some things to share:
Sasha Fierce
Described as being “sexy, seductive and provocative” when performing on stage, Beyoncé has said that she originally created the alter ego “Sasha Fierce” to keep that stage persona separate from who she really is. She described Sasha as being “too aggressive, too strong, too sassy too sexy“, stating, “I’m not like her in real life at all.” Sasha was conceived during the making of “Crazy in Love”, and Beyoncé introduced her with the release of her 2008 album, I Am… Sasha Fierce.
In 2023, (Beyonce and Jay-Z) bought 27712 Pacific Coast Highway, a house in Malibu, California, designed by the architect Tadao Ando, for $200 million. It established a record for the most expensive residence sold in California.

The song that put her at the top of the C&W Chart:

I hear Country music is back in vogue again. :)

:) I like the song but I don’t like her using the b-word in it. I asked my DIL why there were so many different videos out with this song and she said that’s how they do it to get the views up. She said they don’t even have an official video for it up yet. As if things weren’t complicated enough!

Gone are the days when you could listen to new songs just on the radio.

That song you featured…I never heard her like that before…I’ve mostly heard the pop stuff. I like that one.

I just heard about it on Colbert so looked it up. Like I just commented to Glyn, I like the song but why did she have to add the b-word to it? There are some feminists who are not happy with Beyonce and the way she sexually exploits herself (seems strange to type that, but…) as it objectifies females, even if it her as the female being objectified.

Yea shouldn’t have brought that word in…it seems forced… like shock value I don’t know….but it didn’t fit. Many of those pop singers like her and Cyrus do exploit themselves a lot. I hate to say this but I’ve seen it so much I’m desensitized to it and don’t even notice…maybe it’s me getting older.
Saying that…I’ve never heard he like this before.

Max, I’d be hard-pressed to know even one of her songs, so no way to compare this one to the others.

It’s different from what I heard….completely….but I’m not expert on her either.

Beyoncé has proved time and again she’s an artist with impressive staying power. I’ve always loved her vocals. I also like the song you highlighted. I’m less fond of her contemporary pop music, but obviously, millions of other folks dig that music, so what do I know! :-)

Christian, you know a lot more about her music than I do. There has to be something drawing in the listeners, you’re right.

I only know what I’ve heard on the radio. Between Destiny’s Child and Beyonce’s solo music, I bet it comes down down to no more than half a dozen songs.
This excludes the track you featured. If I heard more songs that would be similar to “Texas Hold ‘Em”, I’d pay more attention to Beyonce.
That’s not to say the music she’s popular for is “bad”. It’s just not my cup of tea. As a result, I’m not sufficiently motivated to explore her catalog.

That’s a great song and a great video to go with it. I agree about throwing around demeaning language though–too many many performers feel like they need to do it to be authentic or cool or something. Actually I hear people (groups of teens especially) talking to each other like that way too much as well. It always makes me cringe. No, it does not make you cool. (K)

I heard her other country release 16 Carriages. It popped up on one of my pop streaming stations. I thought it was her but the station never plays her music. Good for her! Your video also showcases Rhiannon Giddens who is another remarkable talent. Yay to both of this women. Thanks, Lisa!

Just listened to 16 Carriages. I like to see women stretching out in new areas and she has done it here. I like Rhiannon Giddens also. My pleasure and thanks for the new info!

With your reply, I thought of Linda Ronstadt who could and did sing everything. I miss her voice; thank goodness for recordings!

Didja know a Canadian wrote that song? ;-) Guess you chose not to use one of the two official videos ;-)
I love this song!

Dale, I had no idea a Canadian wrote the song. And my DIL said there were no official videos out yet for it. Will you please enlighten us with names and links? Pretty please :)

Sorry… Co-wrote. She goes by Lowell (a wonderful singer in her own right, as well. You didn’t see this one?
And just because I mention Lowell here’s one of hers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfLC-n9KHMw

No, I didn’t see that one. I did see one with a visualizer that really got on my nerves thought. Oh wow, I see songwriters for Texas Hold Em listed at wiki as:
Beyoncé Knowles, Elizabeth Lowell Boland, Megan Bülow, Brian Bates, Nathan Ferraro, and Rafael Saadiq.
Thanks for the extra info and the links, Dale. Much appreciated!

Do you have an update on her since 3/11/21??
