OMG how is it I’ve never heard of Trey Hensley ! He’s incredible and that voice, George Jones incarnate is right! Wow great stuff Lisa!

Randy, I’m just as bowled over as you are. I am listening to the album and expecting Taj only on vocals. When Trey’s voice showed up it was double surprise. This album is par excellence! Doing a little more reading, not only is the church where Leon Russell recorded, it was renovated in 2022, which I’m guessing means they installed new/upgraded acoustical stuff. The resonance is SO GOOD.

Cool. I’m on vacay from writing and reading through March (other than a few prompts and something like this) but will keep my eye out for a Leon post :)

That of course brought to mind the great Flatt & Scruggs and “Roll in my Sweet Baby’s Arms”.

Very cool, Lisa. Since Taj Mahal entered my radar screen about seven years ago, I’ve really come to dig the music he plays. I also like how he frequently teams up with other talented musicians, reaching across generations. I had never heard of Trey Hensley who sounds mighty sweet to me. Now I guess I have to check out Mahal’s new live album as well. I knew it came out but haven’t had the chance to listen to it yet! :-)

Christian, I’m just getting started with Taj and I like what I’m hearing, especially with this sextet. Yes, the live album is excellent!

This is great, Lisa! For me Trey is a little bit George Jones and a little bit Kenny Chesney. That’s not a bad combo right there. Excellent find!

Thanks, Nancy. Last night I found Trey and the dobro player on spotify. The difference in the music and sound quality are very noticeably inferior to the Taj Mahal recording, which is a shame. Trey and Dobro need to make some changes in material and production if they want to get noticed.

Taj sounds better than ever. Trey has a great voice. And of course, this is a wonderful song. (K)
