The Warratahs
(follow link to some other great photos and info on the group)
A band forms to play some of their favourite music for a couple of weeks, 25 years and 86,000 albums later it is still very much alive. Based around Barry Saunders voice and songs and Nik Brown’s ability to set the music alight with his violin, this has remained the landscape of The Warratahs sound. — from The Warratahs’ YouTube page
That blurb is from 8 years ago.
This is another band I found through SRR. Since this band has been around for a long time, not sure if they are re-releasing music or making new music. I tried to get to their official website listed at wiki, but it is a non-working link. If you go to the link at the top photo it takes you to lots of pictures and spotify links to their music over the years.
The Warratahs are a band from Wellington, New Zealand. Discography of 9 albums. The music is very easy on the ears and the lyrics sing of great affection for the land and its people.
Again I turned to spotify and lifted the info from it:

I hope Graham sees this one. I love the rootsy sound of them. They sound live…not too polished…kind like their in your living room. Great find Lisa!

I hope he does too, Max. Yes, I really like their sound and their love of their home.

I don’t think I’ve heard him mention this band…I like them.

I am in Wellington right now reading this. They’re not a band I ever expected to pop up in the blogosphere.
Wayne Mason from the Fourmyula used to be a member. They’re best known here for ‘Cruisin’ on the Interislander’ which is close to an advertising jingle.

Spotify Release Radar is a mix of new music being released by old, new, known, and unknown bands. Not sure who curates it, but I’m glad somebody put it into rotation. The YouTube page uploaded 8 or so videos which may have had original music dubbed into them (that’s what it looks like as I watch them.) How big of a place is Wellington? Looks great in the videos! :)

Wellington is New Zealand’s capital. It has about 200,000 people, but there are about 550,000 people in the wider Wellington region. I live in the satellite city of Lower Hutt.

Any song that starts with a fiddle is OK by me! (K)

Such a great group and very local down here. It’s so good when the music works like that.

Awesome they are close to you, and listening and watching the videos are very relaxing.

Thanks for introducing me to this group. I too enjoy a song with fiddle and their sound has an appeal that’s more than simply catchy.

Good way of describing their sound, Steve.

I love that song, Lisa – such a warm sound! It’s strange their website doesn’t work. They also have a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/thewarratahs/) and it still looks active.

I agree on the song. Thanks for the fb link. I try to avoid linking to fb as I don’t care for it (even though I visit it at least once a day.)

I know, Facebook is a double-edged sword. Much of the stuff that gets flagged to me is music-related, which makes it more tolerable! :-)

The only New Zealand band I can think of is ‘Split Endz’.

I just went out to YT and picked a song of theirs — and immediately recognized it. Cool they are from NZ.
