I already spend too much money on plants, but I couldn’t resist this shade-loving pot of annuals for the front of the house.
Sorry for late posting but damn this week kicked my butt every which-way. Slept until noon, which is unexcusable, but it is what it is.
These are pics from fmg on Tuesday and a walk around the yard today. Didn’t include pics of the 10 witch hazel along the fenceline, but they are all thriving. The protective cages have allowed them to recover from all of the deer nibbling. Also not pictured, because I couldn’t capture it on the camera, but there was a coyote walking very nervously along the edge of the back field in broad daylight. First time EVER seeing one alive around here. Have heard them many times deep in the night, yipping as a pack — unnerving sound I still haven’t gotten used to — and saw a car casualty along the road some years back. Still hearing gunshots randomly 24/7 and I really hope those new neighbors down the street aren’t hunting the coyotes at night. You gonna see an old white woman get real cranky if I find out about it. I’m saving some of the good pics for Colleen’s TankaTuesday, which I still haven’t gotten to this week. All pics are in my yard except the last one.

Beautiful blooms, Lisa! 🌵 🌸

Thank you, Miriam. Oh, I’ve been wanting to tell you, you know that bridge by the waterfall pic you took awhile back when you had visitors? I saw that bridge in an episode of “Psych” recently. Such a magnificent place!

Oh, Multnomah Falls! Thank you for telling me, Lisa! That’s wonderful. I’ll look up that episode. 🙂

I forgot the name of the falls. You’re welcome. I think it will be in S3 or S4.

Beautiful pics, Lisa. I wouldn’t feel bad about sleeping longer. If anything, most of us don’t get enough sleep. Hope you’re having a great Friday afternoon and start to your weekend. We’re almost there!😀

Christian, thank you so much. I’d been running on 5-6 hrs a night for a couple of weeks (staying up late with early morning appointments) so a long night of sleep was great. Yes, “we gonna lay around the shanty, daddy” real soon now ;)

oooh love that big pot of plants and flowers! Nice to have a mini tour of your place to see what’s growing and blooming. Wow – coyotes in the night and now in the daytime! And gunshots nearby! … yikes! :)

Glad you like that, Barbara. Now you see why I couldn’t resist. These new neighbors are making me a little anxious with their guns at all hours of day and night.

Your plants look great! We get the occasional coyote in the city, but they’re like shadows, here and then seemingly gone. Hope we all get a chance to rest up this weekend…the week just flew by. (K)

That pot of plants is an awesome mix! I also love that frog in one pic.

I was going to buy separate plants and build my own, but I saw this and said no. I did buy 5 $2 geraniums of different colors and put them into one pot. Can’t wait until that gets going. There are so many frogs at fmg! I have them out back too but I haven’t mowed and it’s getting wild back there.

oops now I know the frog you were talking about was the yard decoration one. Isn’t froggy adorable? My friend knows I collect frogs.

Yes I like that one! Of course I like the real frog on the lilypad in the other pictures.

Your plants are beautiful, Lisa! You don’t have to spend a fortune on plants; try doing a plant rescue next time you feel the urge to splurge. Check your nurseries (CVS or supermarket, too) for plants they’re ditching and ask if you can take one or two. I haven’t bought an actual plant in a long time and it’s great fun to bring a rescue back to life. 🪴

Nancy, I’ve done the plant rescue thing but this was an impulse purchase (the front planter one.) It’s not the plants that cost a fortune as it is the containers. I’ve got a lot of those now too but am buying metal raised beds that will stay put. Actually I’m set for awhile now :)

Some containers are ridiculously expensive, it’s true. Glad you’re set. I’m always doing something with my plants. In fact, the one I’ve been blogging about is ready to burst any day now. I’m on pins & needles!

Lisa, I suspect those cactus peppers all love their new friend Froggy. Love all these shots, but Froggy won the day for me.🐸

Bruce, those are peppers in with froggy but the cactus is just behind that barrel. Glad you like froggy. I’ve been waiting until nice weather to put froggy out there. My friend says weather-safe, but inside in winter just to be sure.

The gentian is gorgeous! I’ve never seen them grow. Your garden is looking fabulous!

Colleen, they are a MI native wetlands plant. I’ve seen them in the wild, but I got this one when I won a native plants package from the local conservation district a few years back. The blossoms are actually pretty small but they look big in the pic. Thanks on the garden. The whole area looks lush, because of the early warm weather, I think. How’s it looking over your way?

Thanks so much, Lisa. I didn’t know about the gentian being a native plant. My plants are going well in their pots. My lavender is lush and amazing and all the day lilies are starting to bloom. We had rain yesterday, which we really needed. The temperature fluctuations are crazy this year.

You’re welcome. Isn’t it nice to step outside to lush and fragrant plants? Yes we have had some wild temp fluctuations. It’s about 70 here today and sunny. The roses are just starting to bloom.
