Cursed
Wilmer, last remaining member of his Tribe, died today. He has bequeathed his property to the city, to be used only as a continued resting place for Wilmer and his ancestors. It was they who built sacred stone geometries for funeral rites and other seasonal celebrations.
Mayor Stick makes a suggestion to the City Attorney. Six months later picnic tables are installed.
Dark clouds gather and dwell over the site.
Mayor Stick is soon afflicted with what the doctor calls, “a wasting disease.”
Asleep, the mayor is awakened by DEATH tapping at his window.
“Your descendants will die,” it whispers.

Well that DEATH is a real party pooper. Not at all as much fun as Terry Pratchett’s DEATH

Tee hee. I wondered if anyone would get the reference :) Yes, this one’s a little more sobering but just as lethal.

Gee, too bad the mayor didn’t get a chance to un-install the tables!

I doubt he even realizes the two are connected…

Mayor Stick got stuck. That is what you get when you mess up.

I’m on a run of badly behaving men that meet brick walls aren’t I. Thanks, Max, indeed.

Yes it does. I don’t feel so bad for him but I feel bad for the sacred space and for the family the curse was unleashed upon. Thanks very much.

OMG! Didn’t see that coming. Wilmer and his tribe are not to be trifled with for sure. I hope the Mayor passes on the message he so painfully received.

It’s a sad situation that the Mayor could have chosen to avoid. I feel bad for his family and for the trampled sacred ground also.

Mr Stick probably won’t even learn the lesson but I feel for his family, as well as those buried and disrepected

There are thousands of Native American burial grounds here in Minnesota and some of them date back over two thousand years. It’s a felony to disturb them but I’ve wondered how many people ignore that if the sites are on their land because they don’t want to pay to have the site identified. I like your story because it cuts to the chase: mess with the site and don’t mess with anything ever again! Simple!

Good to know about the identified sites in MN, Michael, and I’m sure many more not officially recognized. Thanks for the support on the issue :)

That was a big mistake on the mayor’s part. Wilmer’s not to be messed with.

It’s not like he didn’t lay out the terms in the bequeathment. Silly mayor, thought because Wilmer had passed on he could as he wanted to…

Somehow I can’t be sorry for Stick, and on the up side, he’s gonna be escorted by the one and only DEATH… I’d love to meet that one too, when my time comes.

According to the Pratchett legend, DEATH will personally escort you if you’re a wizard.

Scary story, Lisa. It gave me a chill. The mayor should have heeded Wilmer’s wishes.
