Time Benders
In dreams,
yesterday’s suns
visit. Today’s shadows,
drought’s parched earth, where nothing can grow.
I weep.

Colleen Chesebro is the host of TankaTuesday. Colleen wants us to include sunflowers in our syllabic poetry this week.

What a stunning sunflower, Lisa. I love how you juxtaposed the light and the dark with your tanka. 🌻

Thanks much, Colleen! Like night follows day follows night, so do light and dark follow each other…

Sad poem but I love sunflowers.

I do also, Max. Wish I would have grown them this year but had too much going on and didn’t have time to keep an eye on them.

I always liked them…they freaked me out a little bit as a kid as they swayed in the wind.
I also love cat tails… why I thought of them all of a sudden I don’t know.

I can see why they could be scary for a kid. They grow so tall and their faces seem to look down as fall deepens. It’s funny you should mention cat tails. I noticed one out in the front ditch today when I walked out to get the mail and the bins. I like them also. I have read you can eat their roots if you find yourself lost and hungry.

I never heard that…I always saw them in watered areas like ponds. They always facinated me. I would love just to grow some….I’m not sure if that is possible or if you can just plant cat tails.

I don’t know if you can plant them but they have to have their feet in the water or wet just along the shore. Have you ever unraveled one of those “tails”? Those things pop out like fireworks!

wow, that’s cool. I see on the list of companion plants are pitcher plants. After seeing those ones at the gardens I would love to try and grow some.

However, sunflowers don’t care for shadows, they keep turning their heads!

We had a few warm days… but now we are getting small short rain spells. It has been gray most of the day.
If I could send you some rain…

Jules, I think you did. We got sheets of rain at least half of yesterday and it was raining heavy again last night. Thanks :)

Hopefully it was there was enough to feed the roots and not just wash away… :)

Yes, it was. It was a soggy walk to the mailbox. Everything’s looking and feeling good and growing — especially the grass. Gotta mow tomorrow.

Fun, fun, fun. We don’t do our lawn all in one day. The back and gully are ready for a trim also.
