POPO2024 Intro and Day 1

Poetry Postcard Festival goes from July 1 to August 31.  Each participant is given a list with 31 names and addresses.  The expectation in that 2-month period is that you send a postcard with a poem on it to each of the names on the list — and receive a postcard from each person on the list.  This is my 4th year doing it.  Don’t ask me why, but I talked myself into signing on for two lists, so I’ve been writing a poem a day (some days none, other days 1 or 2) for two months.  I’m tired!  The general rule I’ve followed the previous 3 years is to wait a month before posting them.  This year I will start today and it will carry through to the end of October.  I will wait until the end of October to post pics of the postcards I’ve received.  I’ve received so many FABULOUS poems and postcards that are also works of art.  To anyone reading this that sent me a postcard poem, THANK YOU.

Oh yeah, they’ll do it,

Who knew Big Brother

Orwell got it wrong.

our best friend.

I love Postcard Poetry Fest. I did two lists last year, by accident (forgot I had signed up). It was hard. This year one list! I love receiving all the wonderful poetry. Even my mail lady loves it!

Yes it was! It’s began to feel more like a job by the end. I just signed up for next year and hope I don’t forget by next June :) That’s cool about the mail lady. I’m on a motor route so never get to talk with mine. I do hope the folks in my little post office enjoy looking at the ones I put in their mailbox and sorting through the ones I receive. It’s amazing how many good poets and artists participate in POPO.

  2. I love the illustration you’ve chosen. I’m guessing it’s not a photo of one of the postcards you received, right? 🤓

Glad you like that image. Gia, I bought a really varied assortment of 50 postcards and did my best to match up my poems with the postcards. This is one from that variety. Each one I used I scanned so I could include it here as they are posted. You’ll be seeing a wide variety all through the next 2 months. Most of the 2nd month are images of colorings I did back in 2018 just after retiring. I scanned them, sent them to google photos, and they turned them into 4×6 photos.

Sounds like a lot of work AND fun. I hope you receive some great ones and look forward to seeing them in the future. Clever verse, and image choice.

Good way to describe it, Steve. I’ve gotten so many beautiful postcards and poetry. Most/all of the poems were written in the morning with first cuppajoe, sitting on the couch with Mlady and Dotty beside me.

It looks like a lot of fun though…. a lot of work but a lot of fun. Anything worth doing is.

Do what, Dale? (no, not fishing for compliments ;) )

To me it feels like we are in the wilderness and the devil is only too happy to help.

Fish away! Participate in all these daily challenges. I can’t keep up reading them, never mind contemplating ever participating!

        Yes, that he is!

Retirement is like that, being able to choose what to do, when. I can do anything for 2 months, including the daily POPO challenge. That said, I won’t do 2 groups again.

Two groups feels like a LOT.

It was a generic “youse” as in many poets that I follow do participate in multi-challenges and I get extremely overwhelmed. For you multi-posters, I now get one email per day and I choose one (or more) to read. I have to or I would never get off my couch!! My inbox is still overflowing. Especially when I miss a couple days. 😁
