Hurt Road
Why is it that anytime
something good ends
it has to hurt?
Is it a toll for hurt ending
when something bad ends?
Does hurt really work
that way at all?
It may be more
like life’s road is rolling
over hilly ground,
where happy and hurt
take turns?

They do go side by side.

light and shadow, inextricably linked

Perhaps it is the hurt that helps us remember and keeps us coming back again and again!

Just like darkness and dawn, a cosmic inescapability…

p.s. unless we were on the moon, then we could choose when we wanted to be in darkness or light. I bet the moon’s perpendicular equator would be crowded.

Sounds like a good setting for a book/movie doesn’t it.

It feels like that sometimes. I used to downplay the good things, because I’d get slapped with something horrendous shortly thereafter. We used to call that Murphy’s Law. ❤️

Colleen, it is that hilly terrain that gets wearying at times. It would be nice to travel in a hot air balloon or something, but then you’re above life not engaged in it. A conundrum if there ever was one.

Wonderful way you expressed this dichotomy Lisa. Thank you..And so true “happy and hurt take turns” in life.

Suzette, thanks much. It takes a certain mindset to accept it. Even that wavers :(

Yes well said Lisa. It takes courage.

Oh how I love this song, especially The Man in Black’s version. I can definitely see a connection there <3

Emotional ups and downs can tear into a person – and I wonder why we’re wired that way sometimes.

I wonder why also. BTW, do you have a name (that you care to share?)

I think this is a good general description of daily life where ups and downs are quite common. I guess part of the trick here is to recognize and fully enjoy the ups while acknowledging downs inevitably happen but also pass.

Agreed, Christian. Here’s to mindfulness. Cheers!

Yeah, I’m definitely deficient in that department. But I suppose self awareness is the first step.😀
