Summer Breeze
Sulfur cosmos dance,
little suns in themselves,
on thick stems, feathery leaves.
Cottonwood leaves flip, frantic,
flashing silver, like water in sky.
Apple tree boughs bob gently,
laden with wormy fruit.
Cardinals trapeze, tree to feeder.
The cats and I, cool inside, respite
from blaze blasting life outside.

The thing about these poems is I started writing them in July so this one would have been on July 8. It’s much cooler here now — and it feels wonderful!

Randy, it sounds like summer is still upon you. This was written back on July 8. It’s perfect weather here, staying around 70 during the day and getting distinctly cooler at night.
