From the MMA’s website:
The 95th Michigan Contemporary Art Exhibition continues a rich legacy of showcasing the work of Michigan artists, from talented beginners to accomplished professionals. A competitive show, the Michigan Contemporary presents a look at the issues, themes, and materials inspiring today’s Michigan artists. Featured media include painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and installation. A visitor favorite, the exhibition engages, challenges, and inspires conversation.
Contemporary art captures my fancy here. I picked my favorites out of a very large number of works. They are most all technically correct, but the ones I chose also have the “it” factor for me. Before you look at them, please be aware that some are politically potent. What an amazing crop of compelling creativity. After looking at them all, can you guess what my favorite favorite one was? If you do, I’ll write you a poem, your choice of topic (minus math, equations, etc.) This also counts as Friday Favorite Feature 49.

I’m trying to keep the artwork and the placards together. Will see how it goes. Maybe I’ll just do a slideshow. I took 2 or 3 photos of some of them so you could get a look at the detailing in them.

I like the barrels oozing the either poison or radioactive material…just to show they are out there and some buried doing the same thing.

I see that as a powerful work of art and sharing real life. Not sure if you can see it in the pic, but it’s a 3D work of art. A local son of a judge made a doc on the place she’s talking about:

I like that video! The reason I probably picked that is because of The Love Canal which I just found out about yesterday…You may know about it…a city built on a toxic dump. Closed in 1977 but that stuff is still there.

Max, I just finished watching the video. So Hooker Chemical was responsible for that mess also. I wonder how many more sites there are/were? I knew the name of the place, Love Canal, but not how it came to be and what happened there.

Yes they are….it’s no telling how many. I found it on a mechanic show…he wanted to see the place and went there…it’s awful.

Max, you wanted:
“This subject… how toxic **** is dumped in sites where yes…it will get to humans and wildlife sooner or later.”
When green is your god
Evil smothers your conscience
When green is your god,
Blinders to bury toxins.
Evil smothers your conscience;
With rain vomits dioxin,
Innocents waste, illness-shod.
Evil smothers your conscience
When green is your god.

I like the world in the nest. To me it portrays hope of (re)birth, a new way for the world that is inclusive and based on love, acceptance and community.
