POPO2024 Day 45

45 1914

I love nature, but 2 enemies
from it have made war necessary.
Deathly allergic to poison ivy
it was relentlessly creeping up
the sides of the house. Ants
from flowerbeds marched up
into wet rafters of atrium to munch.
Thanks to wise blogmates, my
ammo of borax worked for both.
Boxes of 20 Mule poured along
perimeter and tiny villages of
Terro Treats did the trick. Now
maintenance only for peace.

Me also, Shweta. Harmless to all but the poison ivy and ants and washes away with the rain.

It 100% works for both of them. Terro is a liquid form of borax also. I’ve noticed the poison ivy trying to make a comeback so I poured more on them.

We use Borax for ants…every spring they come to our kitchen sink…a little sprinkle that and they quickly leave.

Yea you just have to be careful inside of not accidently digesting that stuff.

I’m not even sure what borax *is* but wouldn’t want to get it on my skin or get it mixed into food. Looks a lot like baking soda but I’m sure they aren’t the same.

I thought it was worse but it’s a form of salt…I just looked it up…I thought it was poison…but I was wrong…ok I don’t feel as bad then having it out.

  6. Borax for poison ivy?
How am I just learning this?
Hubby gets it bad every time!

Nancy, borax kills poison ivy plants. It’s not a remedy for getting poison ivy rash.

Once you’re exposed, put dish soap straight on the exposed area, wash it good with just the dish soap, and then rinse with cold water. I’ve had good luck with it.

      1. Yes, that’s what I gathered from the comments. Hubby can sprinkle the vines with Borax instead of pulling out live ivy and getting a bad rash. Thanks, Lisa.

OK, I was just making sure he didn’t try it on the rash. Oh I understand about how noxious trying to clip and pull the vines. No matter how careful, some part of it will touch your skin and then away you go :( This stuff works like a miracle. Just pour a lot on it. You’re welcome.

My two cats never go outside, so they are safe. Good to know, though, thanks, Nancy.

  7. Nature is friend and foe, indeed. I do my best to keep a safe distance from the dangerous elements where possible.
