Smell of halitosis rises in hot air
as I balance in a blue kayak.
Basics down, I paddle along.
White feathers fluff on duckweed
on still marshland carpet.
Stately swan line slices through
expanse bordered with cattail.
Great blue heron statued,
fixates on her afternoon repast.
Green herons rough cackle
as they fly from hidden reed nest.
Surface ripples, alive with what
is just under it. Blue damselflies
join on my resting paddle.

This concludes the sharing of my poems for Group 1 and Group 19 in the Poetry Postcard Festival for this year. Tomorrow, the photo of all postcards I received from Group 19 and the cento poem I wrote by taking a line from each of their poems. If you’ve followed these 2+ months of daily poetry, or even if you’ve read just a few, THANK YOU. Writing freeform daily for over 60 days ain’t no joke, but receiving so many wonderful poems and art postcards is more than a fair trade-off. Each of your comments on them has been a wonderful, tasty icing on the cake of the festival.
With love,
Li

Wonderful work, thank you for sharing them Li

Paul, I’m glad you see they were work. You are welcome. I think I may do some collage dabbling on break.

Glyn, I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or a slam. ;) Thanks, my friend!

It was SO hot that day that the pond microorganisms were having a party. Heat suits so many life forms. I hope to do more kayaking next year.

The banks are full of life IF you look.

I remember when you first published this poem. Yesterday and the day before yesterday, we had summer-like temperatures in my neck of the woods without the humidity of August. Today is nice as well but “only” with a high of 62 – I’ll take it! :-)

I’m glad you remember, and I don’t like to repeat myself and should have not shared them back when they happened, but that’s a dilemma because now 2 months has passed and it feels like old news.
I’m very happy you’re getting beautiful weather. A bit cooler here but still sunny.

Robbie thanks much. This happened at the end of August but it was a lot of fun that day. Yes the water lilies were just right that day also.

I love your poem, Lisa! I haven’t done kayaking for years but I loved it when we did it in Maui.

You have reminded me that I have not gone kayaking yet this year… might have to wait for spring. Cheers!
