You drew stars around my scars
–from Taylor Swift’s song, “Cardigan,”
taken from her record Folklore.
Eclipse
Bionauts, our filaments had been floating in cosmoplasm through innumerable incarnations. When the threads of our irredeemable ills intersected, they caught and twisted together, anchoring each other. Agog and giddy, the blossom of grace bloomed in a garden of gratitude.
Only the black rose blooms forever. Only in retrospect may clarity tiptoe in to whisper to us.
Terrible beauty was your being that trauma spawned. You reveled in your power as it is what you drew stars around. My scars also have genesis in it; yet they are internalized shame that no facade may hide. We are two very different beasts. You unfurl in glory of burning sun, fueled by unquenchable appetites. I shrink, slink in cold, moist shadows, praying dirty secrets –some thrust upon me; others sole-claimed– now mute to ears of the wholesome; and to seeking beasts of light and dark.

Bjӧrn is today’s host of dVerse’ Monday Prosery. Bjӧrn wants us to write a 144-word prose story using the top quote.

I really like the contrast between the dark and light here (could it be a bit of your Tao here… maybe even Tay Tao). the two souls bind together one needing the other.

The “beasts of light and dark”: I think I see some Tay-Dao here too, Li. I love the poetry in the prose, so beautifully done, esp. in describing the “terrible beauty” of the “black rose.”

Dora, thank you. Now, it can be Tay Tao or Day Dao but not Tay Dao ;)

That elusive clarity. I like the way you gave the stars and the scars each their own path. (K)
