Learn more about “The Bunkers’ Chairs” (I flipped the image to show how they were set up on the show) here.

Ah chee!”

Dingbat!”

Meathead!”

Baby Girl”

“Daddy!”

Archie and Edith’s chairs are on exhibit in The Smithsonian.

A pudgy little man with the tongue of a white devil
and a teeny weeny little weenie. A blessing for Edith.

Mike, a meathead who spoke truth to power.

Gloria, a vacant chip off the old blockette.

An historic TV family whose ghost haunts the present.

Melissa is today’s host of dVerse’ Poetics. Melissa would like us to write a poem about a TV series. My choice today was based on, “All in the Family.” I loved loved loved that show!

Good reminder of that TV show. We used to watch it all the time. It still is on in re-runs. A classic, but kind of cringe worthy these days. :)

Archie reminds me of a certain someone, but with Archie it was satirical humor. Glad to make you laugh, Melissa :)

I love it Lisa. This was a favorite of mine as well. Watched them all again a couple of years ago.

Dwight, when I had cable TV I had access to them. They’re probably out there on youtube but I can’t take all of the commercials. I loved it whenever someone gotcha’ed Archie. He always had that expression on his face that made me laugh.

I have an over the air antenna that I got from Amazon and I get all the old shows on Get TV and Me TV and Laugh TV. I can get about 50 channels including all the local netwroks and 10 different PBS channels. Being close to Charlotte helps I am sure.

Edith was the glue…and much smarter than was given credit for. Archie and Mike did get on my nerves…because if you didn’t believe the way they did you were nuts.

Thanks for your take on the fam, Max. Edith had to play dumb in that family and unfortunately Gloria watched her mom’s act rather than learned her wiles. I did used to love it when Edith did a gotcha on Archie. I loved the verbal sparring between Archie and Mike (I don’t even think of him as Mike but as Meathead lol.)

Yes he is Meathead! Edith knew ecactly what she was doing…yea the Gloria character really never went anywhere like the rest. I love the show though!

To be fair, Archie also knew what he was doing. Gloria was trained to be a dingbat and never picked up on her mother’s slyness.

Everything’s peachy keen on tv isn’t it. I’m watching that series and didn’t realize it was her. She’s the one he went on a “date” with? (I’m up to episode 3 now.)

This was quite the show back then. My dad really loved it.

We just watched a new show where Sally Struthers, “Gloria” played one of the characters.

Merrill please tell me your dad was not like Archie. My stepdad was a lot like him, but my mom was no Edith. Are you talking about “Man on the Inside” show?

      1. merrildsmith's avatar merrildsmith says:

No!!! My dad–both of my parents–were liberals. And my mom was not like Edith. She worked outside the home, first with my dad, and then after they divorced, she had her own businesses. My dad liked the show for the reasons you mentioned–groundbreaking for the time. I remember him singing the theme song.
Yes, “Man on the Inside.” She also played a recurring role on Gilmore Girls.
