My Grand!
Car windows down, asphalt sizzles post-rain as she winds her way along the old subdivision’s narrow road. Surrounded by newer subdivisions with their imposing proclamations of excess, Primrose Lane and its residents are proud of their modest ranchers, mature trees, little free libraries, and mostly-senior residents.
As Mari rounds the final curve, Grammy and Grampy’s place in view, she feels herself inhaling deeply and relaxing.
Harry’s compact is there – he is always early — and parks poorly, meaning she has to park on the street. Grammy’s face beams, her ample form filling the doorway, as Mari walks up.
“My Grand!”

Rochelle Wisoff-Fields is the host of Friday Fictioneers. Late to the party, but it’s still Friday. Happy New Year to The Merry Band of Friday Fictioneers!

This made me smile. (K)

Max, thank you. I usually don’t like to write “normal” but once in awhile is nice.

Such a sweet story! Is that street flooded, or is it my weird imagination?

This reminds me of my grandmother. She got so excited when we visited. Then, she would watch out the door and cry as we left.
