Winter Pastimes
Winter is a time for puzzles and dreaming. Everyone knows Ginger likes puzzles, so she has a stockpile to choose from.
She’s been saving “Miller’s Pond” for awhile. Its cloudy-skied gloominess isn’t what she’s looking for in mid-February. She reaches for a colorful equatorial puzzle with a green mountain. As she fits red, yellow, and orange pieces of parrots together, she imagines herself swaying on a hammock, sipping mojito, inhaling moist humus scent on the mist while watching her lover’s lithe body standing in a waterfall twenty feet away…
“Ginger!,” Harold yells.
She wakes, face planted among drool-annointed pieces.
[100 words]
Looking at today’s photo prompt, it reminded me of jigsaw puzzles I’ve seen. A friend of mine is a puzzle fiend. It made me wonder what she thinks of as she is putting them together, especially on freezing, stormy winter days like today.

Rochelle Wisoff-Fields is the host of Friday Fictioneers.

Ha. A happy escape.

Indeed! Too bad she can’t escape Harold ;)

You had me at her watching her lover’s body in the waterfall! Too bad just a dream. Lol.

I have puzzle fiends in my family too. I imagine their thoughts are not quite thoughts, just focus, as I am when I’m engrossed in something. At least that’s how they look. (K)

You may be right, maybe the whole point of puzzling is to not think?

That makes sense.

Yes, life is a puzzle full of dreams, if only we controlled the picture all the time.
Yes, your web site has not changed, I usually only approach and read it from the FF story. Yesterday I clicked around and found the whole site. I like the style.

It is indeed possible to lose yourself in a jigsaw puzzle. I used to do it regularly as a child. Online puzzles don’t have quite the same attraction but I still enjoy the occasional one.

Thanks, Sandra. Our library has dozens boxed on a shelf just inside the entrance and a nice table to use. One of these days, I’m going to sit down…

Would love to do that. I am still grateful for you covering the entire series. You dispelled childhood fear I’d held onto for a long time with it.

I’m happy you enjoyed it. I watched some TZ the other night and I started to look up an episode guide…and it hit me…duh…I wrote an episode guide! lol. Thanks so much Lisa.
Oh…you didn’t like it for a long time?

No, it wasn’t that I didn’t like it. More that certain episodes scared me as a kid. Revisiting them as an adult was a positive thing I probably wouldn’t have done if you hadn’t covered the series.

Thats right…Jennifer is still that way with some of them. I’m glad I helped out. I still consider it one of the best written tv shows ever.

We probably already covered this, but which episode was the scariest one to you — as an adult? Watching that one down the elevator at the hospital scared me bad.

Lisa…I was thinking….I was going to say maybe The Dummy…because they freak me out…but you are correct. THAT one is like living a nightmare. You hit it with that one. Now there are creepy ones like Night Call…but the one you said…I think it’s called Twenty Two…is it…I would put that one at the top…the creepiest one is Come Wander With Me.

The Dummy one was really scary and YES Night Call (the old lady getting a call from the grave?) Just looked Come Wander With Me, oh hell no, no thanks lol

That was the last one they did…it had Bing Crosby’s song in it and Bonnie Beecher or Beacher… she married Wavy Gravy…yes you read that right… he is a poet I think…

Hehehe! Why did Harold have to go and ruin everything? BTW, I both love and hate “drool-anointed.” So perfectly…descriptive.

She certainly has dreaming down to a fine art. I wonder how Harold feels about it.

Just a guess, but I think it irritates the hell out of him.
