cover art for Book (2021)
Younger son shared the link for Brontosaurus recently and said he thought I would like it. I do. The best gift ever is when one of your kids think of you and share music they (think you’ll) like with you. Thanks, Son.
Brontosaurus
It had been going so well
And then I broke my eggshell
And entered the world as a brontosaurus
Brontosaurus, brontosaurus
Here's my entire autobiography, I was
Skinny at first, then I got thick, and then back to
Being skinny again like a brontosaurus
Like a brontosaurus
Life was devoid of purpose
And so I joined the circus
Somehow, they found it easy to ignore us
People found it easy to ignore this
Brontosaurus, brontosaurus
You want to leave an impression
You want to express an emotion
You crave some attention
And for this transgression, you'll be repaid when
You fall and you fail and sink into depression
It was as dark as Get Out
I went and stuck my neck out
Wearing an expression of optimism
Optimism and bad vision
Do you think this tale has gone on for too long?
Join the chorus, you can join the chorus
Can't cut it as an artist
Maybe I'm too sensitive
Who would have believed skin could be so porous?
Brontosaurus skin can be so porous
Brontosaurus, brontosaurus
Songwriters: John C. Flansburgh, John S. Linnell.

Love these guys!

Am listening to this album on YouTube right now. They remind me a lot of Cake. Good stuff!

Yes, and they have a deep song catalogue. My daughter introduced me to them almost 20 years ago.

That’s awesome your daughter was the one that introduced them to you.

Nancy, I would be surprised if you didn’t :) I’m sure they learn a lot from you on good music also.

Yep, everything they know! 😂

Alright Li, you know your music, who does that singer sound like? I can’t put my finger on it.

They sound like Barenaked Ladies to me.

They might but that’s not who I heard. I was thinking 80′ pop? Not my genre of expertise.

I don’t know that band.

They did the theme song for Big Bang Theory.

Ah, OK. I haven’t seen that show. Didn’t they do a song where the video is set in Arnold’s Diner (from Happy Days)?

Not sure about that one, Lisa. Big Bang is very funny. It on in reruns now.

I don’t have cable tv. Does it stream on anything?

To me he sings like John McCrea, Cake’s lead singer.

They’ve been around NYC a long time, or at least it seems I’ve always known about them. I like some of their stuff. (K)

I saw that at wiki they’re from your ‘hood. I listened to that album today on YouTube. I like their style and sharp lyrics from what I’ve heard so far. K, you’re in the hub of good music there!

Hm, I immediately recognized the group’s name, They Might Be Giants, but sadly don’t remember in what previous context I heard of them. While I see they have been around for more than 40 years and impressively are still releasing new music, I don’t know any of their songs – except now for “Brontosaurus,” a decent song! :-)

Christian, I knew only their songs from kids shows (Sesame Street?) when my kids were little. Loved these two:

These are nice! :-)
We had Sesame Street as well back in Germany, and I frequently watched it as a kid. If I recall it correctly, it was on weekdays at 6pm for 30 minutes.
That said, I don’t remember any songs. Plus, like in many other countries, Sesame Street was adjusted to be more relevant to the local cultural context.

Christian it’s too bad they extracted the music from the show there. They’ve made some changes to Sesame Street that my granddaughter watches. Cookie Monster doesn’t eat cookies anymore, he eats health food. Oh, the shame! There is such a thing as taking PC too far and this is one of them.

Agree. Plus, it’s not like cookies are inherently bad – everything in moderation except for The Beatles! :-)

Yes, they are afaik. I think this album came out in 2021. Other things I like are that they are meticulous and focused and the main singer looks like he’s having a great time. I watched this last night and fell deeper into them:
