wiki:

Ariana Grande-Butera (b. 6/26/93) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Regarded as a pop icon and an influential figure in popular music, Grande is known for her four-octave vocal range, which extends into the whistle register.

She was born in Boca Raton, FL.  She’s the daughter of Joan Grande, the Brooklyn-born CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a manufacturer of marine communications equipment owned by the Grande family since 1964, and Edward Butera, a graphic design firm owner in Boca Raton. Ariana is of Italian descent and has described herself as “an Italian American with Sicilian and Abruzzese roots.” She has an older half-brother, Frankie Grande, who is an entertainer and producer. Her family moved from NY to FL before she was born. Her parents separated before she was 10 years old.  Grande has a close relationship with her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Grande.

At age 8, she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Florida Panthers’ home game against the Chicago Blackhawks on January 16, 2002. Also at age 8, she performed at a karaoke lounge on a cruise ship and with various orchestras such as South Florida’s Philharmonic, Florida Sunshine Pops and Symphonic Orchestras. As a young child, Grande performed with the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater, playing her first role as the title character in the musical Annie. She also performed in their productions of The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.

Her voice has such clarity–and nice to learn more about her. “Own your quirks”–I like that. (K)

:) I’ve been listening to Eliane Elias all night. Dang she is good. Ariana is amazing for someone so young.

  5. While I can’t deny musically Ariana Grande isn’t my cup of tea, there’s no doubt in my mind she’s very talented. Having a four-octave vocal range is pretty impressive. Sadly, I think this gets a bit lost with the type of music she makes. I feel the same way about Christina Aguilera, who is a dynamite vocalist but whose music rarely allows her to showcase her beautiful voice.

Christian I hear you. Her genre is low on my list but she makes the most of her genre.

She’s an amazing singer, and I like how she does lots of upbeat stuff instead of just slow ballads. She was especially awesome when she was making pop songs about PTSD like Breathing.

What a superb voice, and you get a sense of her range. Seems like only yesterday she was a youngster breaking out on the scene.

The third video wasn’t available in my location… I don’t know why YouTube does that in a supposedly borderless internet!

The 3rd video is Ariana singing with Cynthia Erivo at Oscar Night I’m guessing songs from “Wicked,” which I haven’t seen yet. Basically she’s been in the spotlight just out of the womb ;)

Oh, nice. I’ll have to look for that… have heard a lot of good things about ’Wicked.’
