Lita Rossana Ford (b. 9/19/58) is a British-American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. She was the lead guitarist for the all-female rock band the Runaways in the late 1970s, and then embarked on a successful glam metal solo career that hit its peak in the late 1980s. The 1989 single “Close My Eyes Forever“, a duet with Ozzy Osbourne, remains Ford’s most successful song, reaching No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Ford was born to Harry Lenard Ford and Isabella Benvenuto in London, England; her father was British and her mother was Italian. When she was in second grade, she moved with her family to the United States, eventually settling in Long Beach, California. Inspired by Ritchie Blackmore’s work with Deep Purple, she began playing the guitar at the age of 11. Her vocal range is mezzo-soprano.
In 1975, at age sixteen, Ford was recruited by Kim Fowley to join the all-female rock band The Runaways. The band soon secured a recording contract and released their first album in 1976. They garnered significant media attention and the Runaways became a successful recording and touring act during their late-1970s heyday. Ford’s lead-guitar playing became an integral element of the band’s sound until their eventual break-up in April 1979. Lita launched her solo career in 1982.

Yes, I’d not seen that video before. I’m guessing that you must have heard Lita dedicating her song ‘Lisa’ to her late mother?

Thanks for the great intro to Lita Ford. I had known her name for many years but not listened to any of her music. That live clip of “Close My Eyes Forever” is really cool. While it appears Ford hasn’t released any new original music since 2012, she’s still out there rocking. In fact, she’s about to embark on a tour in Germany!

Christian, learning she’s about to go on tour makes me happy. I think she’s a Rock Goddess to a lot of people.

She was probably the most talented musician in the band. She is a great guitar player… her and Joan I guess are the two best known of them. She had a very succesful career. I remember that duet with Ozzy…it was played a lot.

I just wrote up Joan’s tonight and have to agree that Lita and Joan are the best known. Joan is a badass! So is Lita! Not sure if I remember Lita’s duet with Ozzy, but I love the duet with Lzzy. Wait a minute, has anyone ever seen Ozzy and Lzzy at the same place at the same time? ;)
