wiki:
Cherie Ann Currie (b. 11/30/59) is an American singer, musician, actress, and artist. She was born to Don Currie and actress Marie Harmon and was raised in Encino, California. She has an identical twin sister, Marie; an elder sister, actress Sondra; and a brother, Don Jr. (no, not that one.)
Currie was the lead vocalist of The Runaways, a rock band from Los Angeles, in the mid-to-late 1970s and recorded three albums with them: The Runaways, Queens of Noise and Live In Japan. She signed a four-album deal with Mercury, but left The Runaways after the third album. To fulfill her contract, she recorded Beauty’s Only Skin Deep for Polygram Records as a solo artist.
She and her sister, Marie, released the album Messin’ With The Boys in 1980 as Cherie & Marie Currie. Their duet, “Since You Been Gone” reached number 95 on US charts.
I found a short clip where Cherie talked about witnessing a young girl being sexually assaulted, to (paraphrasing) “break them in to the world of rock and roll.”
Cherie struggled with drug addiction for much of her younger life, a major factor in the abrupt ending of her career. She wrote a memoir, Neon Angel, recounting life in the band and her traumatic experiences with drug addiction, sex abuse, and her broken family. In the 1980s, she began working in drug and psych facilities, later becoming a counselor.
As an actress, Cherie had role in the 1980 film Foxes. Bonus, I was able to find the whole movie on YouTube, which you can watch here.
If you go to wikipedia, you will see that Cherie has a lengthy and varied discography and filmography. She continues to make music and I did see where, a couple of years ago, she was trying to get a reunion going with The Runaways.

Good to see Cherie back ‘in vogue’ and touring with her new backing band.

I have her first solo album plus the one with her sister Marie. Both on vinyl

Nice, Glyn! I remember somebody else got a hit with “Since You Been Gone,” but I like how they did it. Those LPs have got to be collector’s items!?

The rock band Rainbow had the original hit Lisa

Thanks for finding it, Glyn. I found this info at wiki about who wrote it:
“Since You Been Gone” is a song written by former Argent guitarist Russ Ballard and first released on his 1976 album Winning.

Thanks as always for the info and links. I like that she’s still rocking in all kinds of new ways.
Cherry Bomb!–how could I have forgotten that song. It immediately returned to my musical memory. (K)

I didn’t know anything about Cherie Currie’s background story. I’m glad she evidently overcame her drug addiction and even ended up working as a counselor, and she still appears to record music. On Wikipedia I saw she’s also been a woodcarving artist since the early 2000s.

Christian, I’m glad you learned some on Cherie through this post and on your own research. I admire her. IIRC she does the carving with a chainsaw? Transforming trauma into truth is what art is all about.

Yep, Wikipedia notes a chainsaw. You probably don’t want to mess with her! :-)

She was always the member who caught my eye everytime I watched them. That is the reason she was such a good front woman. I saw Foxes way back in the day with Jodie Foster I believe.
I’m glad she was able to overcome all of that stuff.

Max, that link takes you to the whole Foxes movie. One thing I noticed in the opening shot is whoever’s feet they were, they have a nail fungus. Why didn’t someone notice??? I love Cherie’s sass and can see why she caught your eye.

I need to go see that! Once I saw the trailer I remembered it…I’d love to see it again so I’ll do that.

Just rewatched the beginning, I guess I was wrong about the toe fungus lmao
