A2Z 2025 — Day 13 — Mushrooms

Mushrooms

What can I say about mushrooms except that they are pretty, they are fascinating, and many are quite tasty. There used to be — and may still be! — morels growing out back. Furthermore, I *know* I took some pics of them; however, scouring the picture folders didn’t turn them up. I know I posted them at fb in a previous account before the one I recently deleted, but I’m unable to find them in that folder archive either. Oh well. I did find some pics of other mushrooms discovered in the yard, as well as a few “surprise guests” at the end.

If you are a big fan of mushrooms, take a look at this post/poem/YouTube from back in 2021.

AND NOW SOME SPECIAL GUESTS I FOUND IN MY FOLDERS SEARCH:

I love most store bought mushrooms, never picked any myself for eating

That’s what I do, except for a few exceptions. My ex-bf knew some good ones so if I see those I’ll pick them.

I’ve been warned so strictly about the poisonous mushrooms that I never dare

  2. I love mushrooms. A grilled portobello is delicious or sliced in a spinach salad or an omelet. I’d never eat any that were growing in my garden, though. 😵‍💫🍄‍🟫

I love mushrooms in just about everything. I usually buy the button ones or the portobellos. Sometimes the store has variety packs that are affordable.

The 3 I know that are good are puffballs, morel, and coral.

love mushrooms, especially seeing them in early morning light in the woods. And I know that problem of ‘losing’ much loved photos… hope you find them, or the morels, again!

I’m mixed on mushrooms. I love seeing them as part of the landscape, and find them scientifically fascinating, but I have never eaten from the wild. As a kid I did not like mushrooms (to eat) at all. Now I’ve grown to love a few kinds, but still don’t much care for the boring basic ones of my youth.

Mixed on Mushrooms seems reasonable. If I wasn’t positive what a mushroom was and that it’s edible I would let it be. I understand about the “usual suspects” being boring. Nice to find variety that’s affordable.

  6. I love mushrooms. I’ve never foraged for them, but our local CSA often includes varieties in my weekly box that are new to me, so I’ve gotten to expand my horizons quite a bit.

I like them! Older daughter will not eat anything that has touched a mushroom though. I have to make separate spaghetti sauce for her without them.
When I worked for a knitting mill located in Allentown, there were once mushrooms growing in the corner of my motel room! Luckily I was only there for one night…(k)

There is something truly wonderful in the diversity of mushrooms, from their beauty to their healing powers to their deadliness, and everything in between.

There is a photographer I follow on Bluesky who posts mushroom shots every day and it’s such a pallet cleanser in a world on fire.

Totally agree with you on all with mushrooms. They are so much more interesting than many other species of living being.

FYI: Melissa, I just read your Margaret post and tried a minimum of 4 times to comment on it. Each time it gave me an error message and said “duplicate comment.”

I love coming across mushrooms during rainy season. I am not sure how many of them are edible, we mostly get button mushrooms easily in stores and I like them. But, I have seen many videos where mushrooms are told to have specific aroma or flavour and I wish to try them too. Nice photos 😊

I love the variety of size, shape, color, and texture of mushrooms. I only know 3 (well 4, but I don’t like stumpies, which grow on stumps) wild mushrooms that are definitely edible, and I will pick them if I see them, bring them home, soak them overnight in salt water, and then … yum!
