Strawberries
I planted strawberry plants in the old cast iron tub my ex-bf’s brother gave to us. They do well in there. The berries don’t get that big but they are so sweet and juicy compared to the store-bought ones.

Skull
Before I left for a vacation to see my cousin in AZ, I asked my sons what they wanted me to bring back for them. Older son didn’t answer, but younger son said, “a cow skull.” Um, OK son, somehow I will find one and bring it back to you. I did find one, and instead of letting the place ship it back, like a fool I took it and had a hell of a time finding a way to get it home. We stopped at a Staples in maybe Flagstaff and they found a box. The shipping costed more than the skull. When it got here, younger son said, “Mom, I was joking.” Um, OK son. He didn’t want it, so guess who *still* has it? I could hang it on the garage, but instead its open grave is a dinghy sitting in the yard.

Here’s a pic of it a few winters ago:

Sunflowers
I’ve grown sunflowers here several times, and every time on the dirt hill on the driveway. They really love it there.

What’s your favorite berry?
Have you ever gotten a gift for a loved one that you ended up keeping?
What’s the tallest sunflower you’ve ever seen?

Nice post 🙏🎸

:) Thanks, Esther. One of God’s many gifts, strawberries.

I grew Mammoth sunflowers last summer. They were huge! That cow skull in the bathtub would make a great photo prompt.

Yes, the Mammoth are what I grow also. Impressive aren’t they. You know you’re right on the cow skull for a photo prompt. I think I’ll send it to Rochelle for Friday Fictioneers. Thanks for the suggestion :)

p.s. just sent it to her :) I’m hoping you will write to it if she uses it.

Hi Lisa, this post made me laugh. I have one sister who I don’t buy gifts for. Her house is a fashion plate and everything matches and is carefully chosen. I’ve given her a few things and she hasn’t wanted them. They were not to her taste. So now I don’t bother.

Robbie, so glad you can relate (pun intended.) Gift certificates are probably the wisest choice.

Growing your own strawberries is best – so delicious! And sunflowers are just guaranteed cheeriness, no matter their size. The snowed-in skull in the tub is creepy with a side of hilarious. I’d be tempted to withhold gifts for a while from anyone who made me haul one back and then didn’t want it. :-)

I’ve grown strawberries from seeds also, but many moons ago. Yes, that is a great description of the skull: creepy with a side of hilarious. I had Staples ship it home but it costed me a bundle. I would never withhold gifts, but I should have known he was kidding as he is a vegetarian. Now I make sure he’s serious :)

We don’t get sweet strawberries here, all of them are sour or just mild sweet or even bland. I wonder what sweet ones taste like. I love sunflowers, they lift up the mood so easily.

I hope you get to try one one day, Fatima. Yes they do :)

Beautiful sunflowers and strawberries, and that skull is pretty cool, especially when it was in the tub. :)

I think so also about the tub :)

That’s a great story about the skull. Lots of things I gave my girls when they were young and when they decided to get rid of them I kept them–mostly little trinkets. Nothing that big!
I love all berries, hard to pick a favorite. The berries in the bathtub look so inviting. (K)

My closets are full of such trinkets, mine and theirs. Looking forward to juicy strawberries.

Strawberries and definitely my favorite berries and blueberries are my second. My son tried growing strawberries using a hydroponics unit, but he was sad when they died. He’s trying again. Strawberries, skulls, and sunflowers – very eclectic. I love it!

Thanks for reading and your comment, Brenda. My library branch has a new hydroponic “octopus” in it now. I’ll try to get a pic of it next time I go.

Anne thanks! I think it’s all about how much sun they get. I never did in the city as my yard was almost completely shaded by giant oaks.
