Last year we were able to see cherry trees blooming at the gardens for the first time post-Covid lockdown. There are two areas where they are grouped. One is a small orchard where they share space with boulders engraved with what they’ve chosen as words of wisdom. The other is a cherry tree promenade, first seen as one enters the main entrance walkway, through large wall cutouts. One’s eye travels out and along a manicured lawn sided by a horizontal fountain that acts as matte, up to a perpendicular view of the promenade.
Last Tuesday, we noticed the trees are in bloom. As usual, we let granddaughter guide us through the building and the grounds. We ended up not getting any closer to the distant trees and did not see the orchard at all. I hope we see both tomorrow.
end of April’s cool
rewards with daylight sparklers
winter forgotten
The image is one I took last year and doctored to look more like sparklers.
UPDATE: missed the cherry blossoms

missed cherry blossoms
speckled boulder’s silence
still beautiful

Even when watched from a distance the bloom is wonderful… I hope you get to get closer tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago, when all of the adults were standing around her, she said, “You are my family.” I thought my heart would burst.

Man, do I understand being shown about a park by grandchildren. Sometimes they know more than I. I also love how they appreciate some of the wonder around them. Yours is a very nice haibun. Thank you.

I would like to walk along a cherry tree promenade, Lisa, and what a beautiful place to let your granddaughter take the lead! She’s growing up instilled with an appreciation of nature. I love the ‘daylight sparklers’.

It’s very windy today, so will see if any blossoms are left on the trees later. Yes, it is, yes, she is.

A lovely, descriptive haibun, Lisa. Sounds like a wonderful place to take your granddaughter. I am also intrigued by the boulders with words of wisdom.

Thanks much, Mish. I’m not thrilled about them engraving words into the boulders and I’m not sure the boulders are either. Here’s a link that talks about it:

Thanks, Yvette. This past Tuesday we went and blossoms on those trees were long gone. Thankfully there were so many other trees, shrubs, and flowers in bloom, it didn’t matter. There’s always next year (hopefully!)

I think a telescopic view of the trees carries same impact as standing under them.

:) glad you like it. We saw other cool stuff there. You aren’t going to believe it, but my granddaughter walked the labyrinth with me. I followed her. It was easy for her. Then I sat down and she did it again on her own. A weird thing happened, and daughter in-law got it on video. Earlier we were walking and I saw a blue balloon up on a ledge and my son was able to reach it for her. She carried that balloon through both times. Exactly when she stepped out the 2nd time, the balloon burst. Freaked us all out!

I like labyrinths when I see them which is rare. Oh that is odd that it would burst like that. Little things like that are Twilight Zonish…
I should have said this on the previous post…but I hope you can one day find something to do with your Halloween story.

I started going through it and making sure the tenses meshed but then I quit. A lot of proofreading goes into something like that. Yes, I need to get back to it.
