Apple Blossom Celebration
This Spring, for some reason, the apple trees blossoming held special interest for me. Maybe it was missing the cherry blossoms? Perhaps it was birds who set the tone? Yet, maybe they always celebrate them this way? Instead of being a passive observer, long I stood at the window, watching a festive patch of ecosystem.
Two small, shy lovers
feed pollen to each other
suddenly hungry
for other than oiler seeds
chirp wing to wing, beak to beak
I am today’s host dVerse Prosery Tuesday. I say:
Your challenge for today, if you choose to accept it, is to consider what I’ll call magical moments of intimacy you’ve experienced. Choose one of them, and write a poem about it. To open the prompt even further, you may also choose to imagine a moment in the future and what it would look like.

I think I prefer apple blossom to cherry blossom, Lisa, so understated and humble, and the birds and bees love them. I love that the birds fed pollen to each other ‘wing to wing, beak to beak’ – an intimate moment in nature.

Kim, good way of describing them. Yes, they do. The redbuds out front are also favorites of the big bumblebees.

So very sweet and peaceful. I love watching the bees flit from one flower to the next, all dancing around each other. I wonder how they decide which flower to choose!

Me too on the bees. Good question :)

This is so lovely, Lisa.
By the way, WP decided to unsubscribe me from you. There were a few bloggers that I used to get one email per day, like you, and all of them were either flushed or sent to spam. You fell in the flushed pile! I was thinking where have you been… and now I know. So just so you know, it was an involuntary thing on my part! I am back in now :)

Dale, thanks for letting me know. WP has a lot of ghosts in the machine. So happy you were thinking of me and did some sleuthing. I’m thinking of that Aerosmith song where Tyler sings, “I’m baaaaack in the saddle again.” :)

Honestly. I kept thinking, who am I not seeing and then you posted on dVerse and I slapped my forehead…

Dale, I’m on break until the first of July, except for this prompt and June’s dVerse prompt. This Mrs. Greenjeans has to get some projects done and some other stuff.

So interesting, for me, how you chose two birds rather than just one, and how that changes the whole haībun…and of course the pollination theme is wonderfully expressed.

Ain, I’ve seen pairs of birds in many different scenarios, but this is the first time I’ve seen them like this, lost amongst the apple blossoms. Thank you for your always supportive comments <3

What did Blake say – “as the eye is form’d, so are its powers” – as you show here, intimacy is the heaven observed.

very nice tanka. I really like the two last lines, especially the word “oilier.” This really is a lot of fun to read. Thank you very much!

Thank you, Aaron. Actually the word is oiler, which are a type of sunflower seed. Syllable restrictions had me shorten it.

Lisa this is so sweet, so sweet. A poem that is quite visual .. so much so that I could ‘see the scene.’ IWe have an apple tree in our small townhome front yard, but it only blooms every two years .. needs that extra year to replenish the soil ~ lots of lava in our dirt. No blooms this year which means the deer will have no fall dessert treats.

Glad you enjoyed the poem. Thanks for sharing about your apple tree. Interesting how it adapts to its environment by blooming every other year. You’re so right about deer and other critters getting a sweet dessert in the fall. Now that Bjorn said he makes cider, I may just buy an apple press and try my hand at making some of my own Magners :)
