Book Review — _Not My Type_, by E. Jean Carroll

Suffused with gallows humor, E. Jean’s chronicle of her being the plaintiff in two trials against Donald Trump is, by turns, triggering and hilariously funny. The first trial is where a jury decides if he raped her or sexually assaulted her and then afterwards defamed her by saying her accusations were lies, he never met her, etc. Robbie Kaplan and her team of attorneys build a solid case that meticulously documents evidence that proves he lied again and again and again. But they are up against his defense attorney Tacopina who has represented the guiltiest of the guilty and gotten them off, and a dressed to kill Alina Habba. The descriptions of persons, places, things, and actions are as priceless as they are sometimes chilling. E. Jean’s nicknames had me cackling with crone delight.

The second trial happens because the defendant keeps smearing E. Jean’s reputation after the first trial and incites her being flooded with thousands of horrific, insulting messages and hundreds of life-threatening ones. I never knew that there are experts that can determine how badly your reputation is harmed in monetary terms, but the experts were consulted in both trials.

The trials are important in many ways, not the least being showing the detailed sexually predatory behavior of our current POTUS. Anyone who has any knowledge of rapists and other sexual exploiters knows they have a way of setting victims up, depending on the trust or surprise of the victims and using force or coercion to commit their crimes. Reading how E. Jean was attacked and reading testimony of others who were on the receiving end of his predatory behavior was, frankly, terrifying and triggering.

E. Jean, Robbie Kaplan, and the Legal Team involved, YOU ARE ALL HEROES. I urge every adult reading this to read E. Jean’s book.

I so admire her for standing up and fighting.
Not that we didn’t know he was as bad as all that was revealed, but still.
I cannot stand all those “Christians” who excuse his behavior. I don’t believe in Hell, but I kind of hope one exists for those hypocrites. (K)
